Safeguarding
This is a new consultant post to help manage the increasing clinical and administrative workload and to support the 'facing the future' standards set by the RCPCH.
Additional colleagues will enhance senior consultant presence in clinical areas and support a 'second on' duty paediatrician rota, enabling two consultants to provide acute clinical cover during the working week.
The post involves clinical responsibilities for services to children within the Acute Trust, working alongside nine other consultants to provide elective and emergency children's acute services for North Northamptonshire.
The Consultants operate a Paediatrician/neonatal consultant of the week rota for the children's wards. The Paediatrician of the week is responsible for all paediatric in-patient admissions during the week and for all paediatric emergencies during regular working hours, with out-of-hours on-call shared among colleagues.
A separate neonatal consultant covers the neonatal unit from 9 AM to 5 PM on weekdays, with a split on-call rota. All paediatric and neonatal consultants participate in a shared rota covering the paediatric assessment unit from 0900-1700hrs, five days a week.
On-call:
The on-call paediatric consultant attends handover ward rounds and provides onsite cover during on-call hours from 1700 to 2200 hrs, with on-call from home until 0830. The 'Consultant of the week' is on call from 0830 to 1800, with an additional hour (1700-1800) for handovers and urgent reviews. The appointee will conduct ward rounds on Saturday and Sunday mornings and provide onsite cover from 0900 to 1500 hours.
