Taranaki - A place like no other
Taranaki boasts some of New Zealand’s most iconic natural landscapes with Mt Taranaki and our coast. The rugged and wild coastline is home to more than 12 world-class surf breaks, wildlife galore, and Taranaki is a place where you can ski and surf in the same day.
For a more relaxing experience, there are many beautiful walks and bike rides (bush, coastal or mountain) filled with flora and fauna. Not forgetting the iconic coastal walkway, art trails, festivals, and award-winning museums and galleries alongside a thriving café culture.
Hāwera Hospital opened in 2002. The purpose-built facility includes a seven bed ED and 17 Bed inpatient ward (Medical and AT&R). The Hāwera Emergency Department provides a 24-hour service for the 30,000 population of South Taranaki and sees approximately 15,000 patients per year. There is a four-bed primary birthing unit and a large number of specialist outpatient clinics held in Hāwera. The South Taranaki Rural Health General Practice is also located on site at Hāwera Hospital.
The Hospital has a well-equipped laboratory service and a brand new Siemens machine in the radiology department. In addition, the ED has a state-of-the-art Sonosite LX USS machine available for clinician-performed ultrasounds and a team passionate about POCUS.

If you want to work as a Generalist within the Rural Hospital Medicine scope of practice, in a modern innovative environment, this could be what you are looking for!
We are looking to grow our team of open-minded and progressive doctors where you will join a supportive team providing world-class medical services and comprehensive community care at a level 3 rural hospital.
We need practitioners who can use their varied and broad generalist knowledge and experience to diagnose and treat patients in either a primary care and/or secondary care high acuity setting with opportunities to follow your patients admitted to the inpatient ward.
