Crossing Hurdles is seeking a senior-level mechanical design leader for a remote contract role. The engagement requires 10-40 hours per week with compensation ranging from $200 to $300 per hour.

The role focuses on multidisciplinary engineering projects, including CAD, analysis, testing, and AI system evaluation. The ideal candidate will translate objectives into design criteria, manage cross-disciplinary teams, and drive verification through rigorous testing and root-cause analysis.

Role Responsibilities

• Design realistic engineering projects involving mechanical design, engineering analysis, manufacturing, and testing.
• Translate project objectives into clear design requirements, operating constraints, and measurable acceptance criteria.
• Break complex engineering problems into connected tasks with defined inputs, deliverables, dependencies, and expert responsibilities.
• Coordinate contributions from domain experts to achieve project goals.
• Define clear technical objectives and evaluation criteria for AI systems.

Requirements

• Substantial professional experience as a Chief Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, or in a comparable technical leadership role.
• Proven experience leading complex engineering projects involving multiple technical disciplines.
• Strong expertise in mechanical design and analysis, design for manufacture and assembly, and technical verification through testing and root-cause analysis.
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher.
• Experience with CAD, finite element analysis, or other relevant engineering simulation tools.
