Job description

Confidential Opportunity: Consultant Development Manager

Atlanta, GA | Onsite

Are you the kind of leader who can hold people accountable without losing their trust?

Do you know how to push for performance while still building a culture where people feel supported, engaged, and motivated to succeed?

A growing technology consulting organization is seeking a Consultant Development Manager to lead, coach, and develop a population of technical consultants throughout their full employment lifecycle.

This is a highly visible, people-focused leadership role for someone who knows that strong culture and strong performance are not competing priorities.

The Consultant Development Manager will be responsible for creating an environment where consultants understand what is expected of them, receive meaningful coaching and support, and are held accountable for delivering against those expectations.

You will serve as a trusted leader to the consultant population while partnering across training, HR, recruiting, sales, operations, and delivery to drive engagement, retention, performance, and successful client delivery.

What You’ll Own
  • Build strong, credible relationships with technical consultants and become a trusted resource throughout their career journey.
  • Establish clear expectations around performance, professionalism, project delivery, development, and engagement.
  • Coach consultants through onboarding, training, deployment, client assignments, performance challenges, and career progression.
  • Drive accountability by identifying performance gaps early, addressing difficult issues directly, and developing clear plans for improvement.
  • Maintain a strong consultant culture while ensuring accountability standards remain consistent across the organization.
  • Recognize when a consultant needs encouragement, development, intervention, or a more direct performance conversation.
  • Monitor KPIs, project feedback, training progress, engagement indicators, and other performance measures.
  • Identify potential retention, performance, client-delivery, or engagement risks before they escalates.
  • Navigate consultant requests and concerns with empathy, sound judgment, and strong negotiation skills.
  • Reinforce a business-first mindset while helping consultants understand how individual performance impacts clients, teams, and the broader organization.
  • Partner with training, recruiting, HR, sales, marketing, operations, and delivery teams to remove barriers to consultant success.
  • Help create an environment where high performers are recognized, struggling consultants receive meaningful coaching, and expectations are understood.
  • Support a sizable consultant population in a fast-moving, metrics-driven environment.
The Leadership Style We’re Looking For

This role requires more than being personable.

We are looking for someone who can create genuine connection and have the difficult conversation.

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Believe people perform best when expectations are clear and leadership is consistent.
  • Know how to balance accountability with empathy.
  • Can challenge someone’s performance without damaging the relationship.
  • Create energy and engagement rather than simply administering a workforce.
  • Understand that culture is built through everyday leadership behaviors, not perks or slogans.
  • Are comfortable recognizing strong performance and addressing poor performance.
  • Can quickly determine whether an issue is related to capability, motivation, communication, training, project fit, or another underlying cause.
  • Have a strong executive presence and communicate confidently with a wide range of personalities.
  • Enjoy coaching people and seeing them progress professionally.
  • Remain composed when navigating conflict, competing priorities, and difficult employee situations.
  • Understand that employee engagement and business performance must ultimately work together.
What We’re Looking For

Successful candidates may come from staffing, consulting, customer success, workforce management, hospitality leadership, sales leadership, recruiting, or people operations.

You should bring:

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Meaningful experience coaching, developing, managing, or influencing a sizable employee, consultant, contractor, or customer-facing population.
  • Strong performance-management and accountability skills.
  • Experience working with measurable goals, KPIs, or performance standards.
  • Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution ability.
  • Experience navigating challenging conversations professionally and constructively.
  • A demonstrated ability to improve engagement, retention, or team performance.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong judgment and an ability to balance individual needs with business requirements.
  • An interest in technology consulting and the professional development of technical talent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Psychology, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.
