What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Underwrite individual risks for acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions, utilizing a high level of authority
- Research and develop new classes of business while assessing market viability and creating necessary forms and endorsements
- Achieve production and loss ratio goals by managing territory effectively and implementing sales strategies
- Analyze premium and loss results, assessing the quality of broker submissions and recommending corrective actions
- Foster positive relationships with agents and brokers, resolving conflicts and assisting with marketing strategies
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of five years of brokerage casualty (GL) underwriting experience in the Excess & Surplus line of business
- Eight years of underwriting experience handling large or complex programs and accounts, preferably in excess & surplus lines
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with advanced negotiation abilities
- Ability to analyze complex insurance risks and determine acceptability, including policy language and various rating plans
- Proven ability to train and mentor underwriters, underwriting assistants, and interns
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Completion of general insurance courses such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI
- Familiarity with facultative reinsurance and experience working with various reinsurance facilities
- Experience in developing new programs and assessing market viability for alternative risk transfer mechanisms
- Proactive development of technical and business knowledge through internal and external venues
- Previous experience teaching classes to enhance technical underwriting knowledge
