Job summary

Ottawa Area Intermediate School District in Holland, Michigan seeks a Behavior Systems Consultant to support local districts in developing sustainable MTSS-based behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health systems.

This full-time role reports to the Director of Behavior and Mental Health Services and focuses on consultation, coaching, and professional learning to improve student outcomes.

Qualifications

Position Summary

The Behavior Systems Consultant supports local school districts in developing sustainable systems, practices, and staff capacity to improve outcomes for students with behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health needs. The consultant works collaboratively with district teams to strengthen Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (Primarily Tier 3) and intensive intervention practices through consultation, coaching, professional learning, and problem-solving.

The consultant serves as a partner to district teams by helping translate evidence-based practices into effective implementation. Consultation may include systems-level planning, professional learning, observation, coaching, modeling, facilitation of problem-solving processes, and support for implementation fidelity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Systems Consultation and Capacity Building
• Consult with district leadership teams regarding behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health systems and supports.
• Assist districts in strengthening Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 systems within an MTSS framework.
• Facilitate district problem-solving meetings and Service Delivery Plans.
• Build district capacity through consultation, coaching, modeling, and technical assistance.
• Assist teams in evaluating the effectiveness of behavioral supports and intervention systems.

Behavioral Support

• Support district teams in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
• Assist teams in developing, implementing, and monitoring Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• Consult regarding students with significant behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs.
• Support teams in identifying evidence-based interventions and progress-monitoring practices.
• Provide coaching and modeling to support implementation of behavioral interventions when appropriate.
• Facilitate collaborative problem-solving among school staff, families, and community partners.

Professional Learning

• Design, coordinate, and facilitate professional learning opportunities for district personnel.
• Support regional Communities of Practice and professional networks.
• Help to develop resources, tools, guidance documents, and implementation supports responsive to district needs.
• Provide training in behavior support, de-escalation, intervention design, and related topics.

Collaboration

• Collaborate with OAISD staff and multidisciplinary teams to support district needs.
• Participate in regional initiatives related to behavior and intensive supports.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of OAISD service delivery systems.
• Maintain current knowledge of research, legislation, and best practices related to behavior and mental health supports.

Qualifications

Required

• Master's degree in Special Education, School Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavior Analysis, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
• Minimum of three years of successful experience supporting students with behavioral, emotional, or mental health needs, ideally in a school setting.
• Knowledge of MTSS, PBIS, Functional Behavior Assessment, and Behavior Intervention Planning.
• Demonstrated consultation, facilitation, and professional learning skills.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with educators, administrators, and families.

Preferred

• Prior experience working within a K-12 school district preferred.
• Experience supporting district-level systems change.
• Experience providing coaching and implementation support in school settings.
• CPI Instructor certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• Knowledge of Michigan special education law, LRE requirements, and intensive support systems.

Additional Assignment Information

Behavior Systems Consultants may be assigned to cross-functional initiatives, intensive support teams, Communities of Practice, regional projects, or other responsibilities based on organizational needs.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to move throughout school buildings and district facilities, including navigating multi-floor buildings and various classroom environments.
• Ability to sit, stand, and move between workstations for extended periods during meetings, observations, and professional learning sessions.
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials, equipment, or training resources up to 25 pounds with or without mechanical assistance.
• Ability to travel between district locations.

Compensation and Details:

• Pay: Salary range of $92,288-$119,080 commensurate with experience
• Schedule: Full-time, 205 day schedule
• Benefits: Full benefits package, including health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. MPSERS provided retirement plan.
