Job summary

Rockymountnc is seeking a skilled technician to perform construction, repair, and maintenance of the city's water and sewer system.

You will assist in installation, repairs and maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure, install hydrants and taps, prepare sites, repair mains, and support the crew supervisor. The role requires a high school diploma, and a valid NC driver's license with CDL-B eligibility within 6 months; on-call duties apply 24/7 on a 4-week cycle.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Apprenticeship/internship or 1-2 years experience in water/sewer utilities preferred.
• Must have valid NC driver's license; CDL-B within 6 months of hire.
• Experience in maintenance and construction of water and sewer utilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in installation, repairs and maintenance of water and sewer system.
• Assist in the installation of fire hydrants, water/sewer taps, meter boxes, etc.
• Assist in daily preparation and restoration of construction sites.
• Repairs broken or damaged water or sewer mains.
• Assist Crew Supervisor in daily assignments.
• Operate tools and equipment; install barricades and traffic control devices.
• Follow safety guidelines.
• Be on call for after-hours emergencies on a 7-day standby rotation every fourth week.

JOB SUMMARY

This position performs difficult skilled work in construction, repair, and maintenance of the water and sewer system.

• Assist in installation, repairs and maintenance to City's Water and Sewer System.

• Assist in the Installation of, fire hydrants, water and sewer taps, meter boxes, etc.

• Assist in daily preparation and restoration of Construction sites.

• Repairs broken or damaged water or sewer mains.

• Assist Crew Supervisor in daily assignments.

• Operate various construction tools and equipment as needed. Installs barricades and other traffic control devices.

• Follows safety guidelines.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• This position will require you to be on call for after hour emergencies for a 7-day 24 hour standby rotation every fourth week.
  

Education and Experience:

• Possession of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of a current and valid driver's license with active and consecutive 3-year verifiable driving history. Driving history will be checked. (Must be able to be licensed in the State of North Carolina); with the ability to obtain a N.C. CDL Class B drivers license within (6) months of hire.
• Previous experience in Maintenance and Construction of Water and Sewer utilities.

• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of City geography.
• Knowledge of safety standards.
• Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
• Skill in the repair and maintenance of hand and power tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• The work is light work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

• The work is typically performed outdoors.
