Position Summary

Assist in the construction, maintenance, repair, and remodeling of City facilities/structures and parks; perform less complex construction tasks and a variety of technical tasks related to assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Additional Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of construction, carpentry, plumbing, or welding experience preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from the date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Basic methods and techniques of general construction.
  • Basic labor tasks supporting carpentry, block laying, brick laying, painting, and cement work.
  • Operational characteristics of basic construction equipment and tools.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Learn to independently perform rough and finish carpentry, cement finishing, welding, and plumbing tasks.
  • Operate a variety of construction equipment safely and effectively.
  • Learn to read and follow blueprints and sketches.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
