Position Summary
The Construction Technician is an entry-level skilled construction position for individuals with previous construction experience who want to build a career in the commercial glass and glazing industry. This position assists with fabrication, preparation, transportation, and installation of commercial glass, aluminum storefront, curtain wall, entrances, doors, hardware, and related materials while learning from experienced glaziers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with the installation of commercial glass, storefront, curtain wall, entrances, doors, hardware, and aluminum systems. Safely load, unload, transport, and organize materials; accurately read a tape measure; operate hand and power tools safely; assist with layout, fabrication, and installation; and learn to read blueprints and shop drawings. Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites; follow OSHA and Planet Glass safety procedures; communicate professionally with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers; protect company tools, vehicles, and equipment; and complete required training and other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications
At least one year of construction experience, including framing, carpentry, remodeling, handyman work, finish carpentry, door/window installation, or general construction. Ability to accurately read a tape measure; safely use drills, saws, impact drivers, grinders, levels, caulk guns, and other construction tools; demonstrate basic math skills and strong mechanical aptitude; and maintain dependable attendance and a strong work ethic. Valid driver’s license preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Commercial glazing experience; aluminum storefront or curtain wall experience; blueprint-reading ability; forklift or aerial-lift experience; and OSHA 10/30 Certification.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry 75+ pounds; stand, walk, kneel, bend, squat, crawl, and climb throughout the day; work safely on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts; work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions; and safely handle large glass and aluminum materials.
