The construction technician provides semi-skilled technical or paraprofessional support in connection with the construction of engineering projects. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

What you'll do:

  • Performs basic construction tests such as air, slump, moisture, compaction, aggregate gradation, and density; reports results to supervisor.
  • Performs measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, and contractor payment estimates.
  • Assists in inspection of bituminous and portland cement concrete plants and/or grading, base,
    bituminous or concrete paving.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports pertaining to inspections; keeps supervisor informed of activities or unusual conditions; ensures projects meet department standards.
  • Enters and records information regarding construction projects into computer programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification required within 90 days.
  • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
Special Working Conditions:
  • Job requires moderate physical activity.
  • Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
  • Basic math skills, consistent with high school level algebra, will be necessary to perform many of this title’s duties.
  • Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
