Job summary

ECS Limited is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician to join our Mechanicsburg team. No prior experience is required, as you will be trained on the job and supported to obtain certifications, including OSHA 10.

Starting pay is $20 per hour with opportunities to develop skills in field observation, testing soils, aggregates and concrete, data collection, and coordination with project managers on active construction sites.

Qualifications

  • No experience required; training provided and certification fees paid.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to lift 85 pounds and have a valid driver's license.
  • Willing to develop knowledge of CMT principles and OSHA 10 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Field activities: observe, test, and sample soils, aggregates, and concrete at project sites.
  • Perform routine field and laboratory tests on soils, aggregates, and concrete.
  • Collect data and perform calculations; assist with drafting and administration.
  • Maintain daily communication with site contractors, project managers, and supervisors.
  • Receive training in ECS methodology and document findings accurately.

ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician to join our Mechanicsburg team and advance in a dynamic work environment. No prior experience is needed, as you'll work under the guidance of experienced professionals to learn to safely perform a variety of tasks.

  • Field Activities: Conduct observation, testing, and sampling of materials, including soils, aggregates, and concrete on construction materials testing project sites; execute tasks based on project requirements under the guidance of senior technicians, staff professionals, and project managers.
  • Testing Procedures: Conduct routine field and/or laboratory tests for soils, aggregates, and concrete using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance.
  • Data Collection: Perform calculations and data reduction based on sampling, test results, and inspection; may assist with calculations, drafting, and other administrative duties as requested.
  • Communication: Maintain daily communication with site contractors, fellow technicians, and project managers; communicate changing site conditions and additional requested testing to supervisor; attend project meetings as requested; assist with organization of field equipment and notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed.
  • Training and Development: Receive training in ECS methodology for project observations, inspections, and testing; document findings with precision in accordance with accepted engineering practices.

Qualifications
  • No experience required.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 85 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Willing to develop an understanding of heavy construction safety, practices, and procedures.
  • Willing to obtain knowledge of CMT principles and applications, as well as ASTM laboratory standards, leading to certifications in soils, concrete, and radiation safety.
  • OSHA 10 certification may be required.
  • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Ability to work effectively with contractors, peers, and supervisors.

  • The following U.S. Military ranks will qualify for this position if they also meet the education and license requirements from the section above: E-4.
