Job summary

Ayres Associates in Wisconsin seeks a Construction Technician to gain hands-on field experience on municipal infrastructure projects. You’ll join an employee-owned company that values teamwork, training, and career growth.

On a typical day you will perform construction observation, take quantity measurements, prepare pay estimates, review drawings and specifications, maintain client relations in the field, and prepare reports. A relevant degree and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering technology or equivalent.
  • Municipal infrastructure construction observation experience beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction observation of municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Perform quantity measurements and computations, record keeping, contractor pay estimate preparation and review of contractor progress; materials testing; field staking and general inspection for municipal road and utility projects.
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications and ensure conformance with contract requirements.
  • Maintain client relations while in the field.
  • Prepare reports, review design standards and code requirements, and conduct field investigations.

On any given day, you’ll:
  • Perform construction observation of municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Perform quantity measurements and computations, record keeping, contractor pay estimate preparation and review of contractor progress; materials testing; field staking and general inspection for municipal road and utility projects.
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications and take appropriate action to ensure the project is constructed in conformance with the requirements of the project construction contract.
  • Maintain client relations while in the field.
  • Prepare reports, review design standards and code requirements, and conduct field investigation of design problems.
Required qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering technology or equivalent.
  • Previous municipal infrastructure construction observation experience, including sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, and roadway construction experience would be beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
Desired skills and experiences:
  • Experience in excel and word.
  • Experience working in AutoCAD and Civil3D.
  • Staking/survey experience.
  • Strong written/verbal communications skills and the ability to operate independently.
