Our client is a growing mid-market CPA firm with a strong regional presence and a national reputation for excellence in advisory, tax, and assurance services. The firm takes pride in its entrepreneurial culture, collaborative environment, and deep industry specialization—including a robust construction practice. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a strategic and client-focused Construction Tax Partner to lead and expand their construction tax practice in the New York Metro area.

As a Tax Partner specializing in the construction industry, you will be responsible for leading client engagements, developing new business, mentoring staff, and providing high-level technical guidance on complex tax matters related to contractors, developers, and construction-related businesses. You will play a key role in the firm’s continued growth in this niche and be a trusted advisor to high-impact clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead tax advisor for a portfolio of construction clients, including general contractors, subcontractors, and real estate developers.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of complex tax returns, including partnerships, S corporations, and multi-state filings.
  • Advise clients on a variety of tax planning strategies specific to the construction industry (e.g., §460/percentage-of-completion methods, cost segregation, job costing, contractor accounting, etc.).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients and actively develop new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and industry events.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to tax staff, senior associates, and managers.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations while identifying planning opportunities to minimize client tax liability.
  • Collaborate with other partners and practice leaders to drive firm-wide strategic initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • CPA license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with at least 5 years focused on construction clients.
  • Strong technical expertise in federal and state tax regulations affecting construction and real estate businesses.
  • Proven ability to lead client engagements and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated business development success and a strong professional network in the construction industry.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to the NYC or Long Island area; hybrid schedule flexibility available.
