Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Construction Surveyor is responsible for providing accurate layout, measurement, and verification services to support the successful execution of construction projects. This role ensures that all structures and components are built in the correct location, alignment, and elevation according to engineering and architectural designs. The Construction Surveyor works closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to maintain quality, safety, and compliance throughout the construction process.

Key Responsibilities

Site Layout & Measurement

  • Perform field surveys to establish control points, reference lines, grades, and elevations.
  • Review construction drawings, building information models, and specifications to determine exact coordinates, alignments, and layout requirements.
  • Lay out foundations, utilities, structures, and other site features using physical markers (pegs, paint, laser points).
  • Verify dimensions, elevations, and alignment during construction.
  • Conduct topographic, boundary, and as-built surveys as required.

Data Management & Documentation

  • Record field data using total stations, GPS/GNSS, and data collectors.
  • Process survey data and prepare layout drawings, maps, and reports using CAD or surveying software.
  • Maintain detailed field notes, as-built records, and survey logs.
  • Coordinate with design and engineering teams to identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Address technical issues related to layout, alignment, or field conditions.

Equipment & Quality Control

  • Calibrate, maintain, and operate survey instruments (total stations, levels, GPS/GNSS, laser scanners).
  • Ensure accuracy and reliability of all collected survey data.
  • Verify subcontractor work through periodic checks and measurements.
  • Adhere to quality standards and safety procedures.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work with project management, field supervision, and design teams to plan and sequence survey activities.
  • Communicate survey results and coordinate layout priorities.
  • Support scheduling, logistics, and change management with timely survey input.
