Job summary

Stafford County is seeking a qualified supervisor for facility systems projects. You will oversee installation, maintenance, repair and construction efforts under the Construction and Asset Manager.

Starting pay ranges from $37.94 to $52.17 per hour, with a full range up to $66.40 per hour to allow growth. Virginia DPOR licenses in relevant trades are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required and at least 5 years of field experience in facilities operations.
  • DPOR professional tradesman license in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, gas fitter, backflow prevention, elevator mechanic or building energy analysis is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise inspection processes, assign projects, coordinate with departments, engineers, and contractors from start to finish.
  • Perform inspections of complex electrical, mechanical, and structural improvements.
  • Develop scopes of work and obtain contractor quotes.
  • Assist in bid package development and monitor progress against plans.
  • Maintain work order system, records, and detailed reports.
  • Ensure permits and inspections stay on schedule; supervise staff as needed.
  • Identify procedural improvements and assist with staff evaluations.

Job description

Performs difficult technical work in supervising the installation, maintenance, repair and/or construction of facility systems and building improvements projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Construction and Asset Manager. Supervision is exercised over Facilities maintenance personnel.

Starting pay for this position is $37.94/hour to $52.17/hour based on experience.

The full salary range is from $37.94/hour to $66.40/hour to provide room for growth.

  • Supervises the inspection process, assigns projects, resolves revision requests, and coordinates with other County departments, developers, engineers, and contractors from initiation to completion of construction and repair projects for the Department of Facilities Maintenance; Oversees the preparation and maintenance of files and records;
  • Performs the inspection of complex electrical, mechanical and structural construction improvements;
  • Develops and drafts scopes of work;
  • Obtains quotes from contractors;
  • Assists in developing bid packages;
  • Checks projects for progress and conformance to work plans and orders;
  • Assists crew supervisors and skilled workers on difficult jobs;
  • Coordinates requests from contractors;
  • Coordinates the use of available equipment, materials, and manpower to obtain the maximum effectiveness and economy;
  • Maintains a work order system, keeps records and makes detailed reports;
  • Assures that permits and inspections are on schedule;
  • Assists with supervision and evaluation of employees;
  • Identifies and recommends procedural improvements or changes;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of analysis, inspection, and maintenance techniques for building systems;
  • Considerable knowledge of construction and maintenance of infrastructure;
  • Knowledgeable about safety precautions and hazards associated with construction work;
  • A basic understanding of the requirements for electrical, mechanical, and concrete construction;
  • Ability to understand and interpret descriptions, construction plans, engineering records and maps;
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other department staff, contractors and the general public.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and a minimum of 5 years of field experience in operations, maintenance, and construction of facilities.

Possession of Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) license as a professional tradesman. These include the trades of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, gas fitter, backflow preventions, elevator mechanic, and building energy analysis.
