Job summary

Henkels & McCoy, Inc. is looking for a Construction Supervisor to oversee gas distribution field operations across multiple crews. You will ensure safe, on-time, and on-budget project delivery while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

You will coordinate with clients, inspectors, and permitting agencies, supervise 8–10 crews (25–35 personnel), and drive continuous safety and efficiency improvements on site.

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS degree in Project Management, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in gas distribution or utility construction with increasing field supervision responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of gas distribution construction methods and practices.
  • Understanding of DOT/PHMSA regulations and gas utility compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to manage field crews, subcontractors, and multiple job sites.
  • Experience with cost tracking, scheduling, and construction reporting systems.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and construction/project management software.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee field operations for gas distribution construction projects, including main installation, service replacements, upgrades, and emergency response.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and compliant with regulations.
  • Manage daily field activities, monitor productivity, coordinate crews and subcontractors, and ensure quality installation and restoration.
  • Supervise gas distribution construction tasks: mainline installation, service installations, leak investigations, tie-ins, purging, and pressure testing.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and OSHA/DOT/PHMSA standards; conduct safety briefings and investigations.
  • Monitor costs, productivity, and equipment utilization; review daily reports and progress tracking.
  • Coordinate with utility clients, inspectors, municipalities, and permitting agencies for compliance and timely completion.
  • Oversee traffic control, excavation, restoration, and right-of-way management; manage union and non-union crews and subcontractors.
  • Document as-builts, pressure tests, inspection logs, material usage; assist with scheduling and resource planning.

Responsibilities

The Construction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing field operations associated with gas distribution construction projects, including main installation, service replacements, system upgrades, and emergency response work. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT and PHMSA requirements.

The Construction Supervisor manages daily field activities, monitors productivity, coordinates crews and subcontractors, and ensures quality installation and restoration of gas distribution infrastructure.

  • Supervise and coordinate gas distribution construction activities, including:
    • Mainline installation (plastic & steel)
    • Service installations and replacements
    • Leak investigations and emergency repairs
    • Tie-ins, purging, and pressure testing
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, OSHA requirements, and gas utility regulations, including DOT/PHMSA standards.
  • Conduct jobsite safety briefings, audits, and incident investigations; reinforce a strong safety culture among crews.
  • Monitor and control job costs, labor productivity, and equipment utilization; review daily reports and progress tracking systems.
  • Coordinate with utility clients, inspectors, municipalities, and permitting agencies to ensure work compliance and timely completion.
  • Oversee traffic control, excavation, restoration, and right-of-way management.
  • Manage and support union and non-union crews (Between 8-10 crews, and 25-35 individuals), subcontractors, and field personnel.
  • Ensure proper documentation of:
    • As-builts
    • Pressure tests
    • Inspection logs
    • Material usage and traceability
  • Assist with scheduling, resource planning, and coordination of tools, equipment, and fleet.
  • Promote continuous improvement in construction practices, safety performance, and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of gas distribution construction methods and practices
  • Experience with:
    • Underground utility construction
    • Excavation safety and trenching standards
    • Pipeline installation and maintenance
  • Understanding of DOT/PHMSA regulations and gas utility compliance standards
  • Proven ability to manage field crews, subcontractors, and multiple job sites
  • Experience with cost tracking, scheduling, and construction reporting systems
  • Proficiency with MS Office and construction/project management software
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Preferred
  • Experience working in live gas environments
  • Knowledge of plastic fusion, steel welding, and pipeline integrity practices
  • Familiarity with regional gas utility standards and specifications

Minimum Educational Background: BS degree in Project Management, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent work experience

Minimum Years Of Relevant Experience: 2–5+ years of experience in gas distribution or utility construction, with increasing responsibility in field supervision
