Construction Supervisor Position: Part-time position that reports to the Construction Manager (CM).
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Acts in partnership with the Construction Manager (CM) to supervise the build activity and oversee volunteers when the CM is offsite. You don’t do the work; you supervise the work.
- Provides adequate supervision and training of volunteers on the job site. This includes holding an initial meeting with the volunteers at the beginning of their shift to discuss the plan for the session, assigning an appropriate number of volunteers for the tasks, assuring that duties are not being performed by individuals of an inappropriate age group, and may include hands-on training of unskilled volunteers. Supervise, motivate, and give recognition to volunteers.
- Access signed-up volunteers, sign-in volunteers, and report absences.
- Assure that all work performed is done in accordance with Habitat safety standards and follows build codes and Habitat building practices.
- Follows plans for each house and works with the Construction Manager on any changes.
- Assist in proper control, maintenance, storage, and security of material, tools, and equipment.
- Accountable for the safety and security and keeping an orderly job site.
- Performs other appropriate activities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- This position should have an extensive background and experience in all phases of residential construction. Organizational skills and experience managing construction projects are a must.
- The candidate will need adequate communication and leadership skills to instruct unskilled volunteers in construction methods.
- Give oral instructions and directions to volunteers.
- Schedule, prioritize, and manage multiple activities on site.
- Analyze circumstances and weather, make routine decisions, problem solve and give direction regarding problem resolution.
Duration and hours:
- Between the CM and Supervisor, the build site is covered daily between 7:45 am to 4:30 pm.
- The ideal candidate will be available from April-July: Monday to Friday or Tuesday-Friday afternoon slot from 12:30-4:30 pm, and alternate Saturdays from 7:45-4:30 pm.
- August – October: Tuesday to Friday afternoon slot 12:30-4:30 pm, and alternate Saturdays.
Hourly rate: The rate is based on the experience of the candidates and is between $20-25 per hour.
