Job description

CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT (STARSHIP INFRASTRUCTURE)

As a critical member of the Starship Infrastructure team, you will supervise and lead a group of laborers and contractors to enable the build and activation of infrastructure for a variety of projects at Cape Canaveral, FL.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee and own the day-to-day site management of a fast-paced, high impact construction project including the responsibilities below:
    1. Manage a team dedicated to construction site logistics/operations, including work schedules, project progress, and resource allocation.
    2. Planning, implementation, and enforcement of construction site logistics to enable broader project goals and schedule.
    3. Management of SpaceX construction assets (trailers, portas, rental equipment, etc.).
    4. Implement and enforce SpaceX safety policies. Drive the safety culture on the jobsite through contractor and internal partners.
    5. Daily field coordination and conflict resolution for contractors and internal partners.
    6. Manage site logistics, including daily deliveries, offloading, inventory, storage, and staging of SpaceX purchased materials.
    7. Responsible for jobsite cleanliness.
    8. Maintain, implement, and iterate SpaceX provided construction barricades as needed.
    9. Maintain jobsite SWPP and enforce compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    10. Create, enforce, and iterate on schedules for workers and subcontractors in conjunction with engineering and project management team.
    11. Maintain a daily log for the job site’s operations, reporting to management as necessary.
  2. Oversee the procurement and execution of specific construction projects as delegated by the engineering & project management team:
    1. Provide budgetary costs based upon the preliminary scope of the project.
    2. Gather proposals from contractors; assign contracts upon receipt of all proposals.
    3. Develop the final cost and schedule for the sub-project, and implement controls as needed to manage cost, schedule and scope.
    4. Coordinate project implementation and track project status.
    5. Coordinate with end user and facilities team for building operations and maintenance.
    6. Manage night shift contractors as project work requires.
  3. Make changes in the operation as necessary to best meet construction deadlines, triage issues to engineering & project management team as necessary to ensure schedule and quality are adequate.
  4. Responsibility for contractor badging & security through Cape/Kennedy Space Center badging process.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  2. 5+ years of professional experience in the construction industry with experience leading a construction labor force.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Field experience in a technical field or in managing a multi-discipline team of contractors/laborers.
  2. Previous experience with project management and scheduling software.
  3. Basic proficiency with AutoCAD.
  4. Knowledge of processes of jurisdictional permitting and/or environmental agencies.
  5. Understanding of multiple disciplines such as civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying.
  6. Experience with project management of construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management.
  7. Experience reading, reviewing, and approving shop and fabrication drawings.
  8. Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while maintaining a high sense of urgency in a high-paced, challenging work environment.
  9. Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral.
  2. Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet).
  3. Physical effort with lifting and carrying materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs.).
  4. Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain.
  5. Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise.
  6. Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required.
  7. Valid driver’s license.
  8. Occasional travel may be required to support vehicle operations at production and launch sites.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Construction Superintendent/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Construction Superintendent/Level II: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
