Job summary

ARCO Design/Build in Raleigh, NC seeks a Superintendent Intern/Co-op to gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle, from mobilization to completion. You’ll work with seasoned superintendents, attend meetings, review drawings, and contribute to daily reports while learning site safety and quality control practices.

You’ll receive competitive hourly pay and a housing stipend, plus access to professional development and mentorship through ARCO’s Learning and Development team.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, Construction Management, Building Science, or Construction Engineering undergraduate or graduate program (other related engineering majors will be considered)
• Driver's License
• Excellent verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong work ethics
• Previous Co-op or intern exposure in construction preferred, but not required
• GPA 3.0 or higher preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

• Gain exposure to field operations from site mobilization through project completion.
• Assist with scheduling, coordination, and monitoring progress to help keep projects on schedule.
• Attend subcontractor coordination meetings, owner walkthroughs, and project planning discussions.
• Observe and support safety leadership and quality inspections on site.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a Superintendent Intern/Co-op, every day brings a new lesson. You’ll gain exposure to the full lifecycle of a project while working alongside experienced professionals who are invested in your growth.

Here's what you can expect:

• Field Operations – Gain exposure to how ARCO manages daily job site activities from site mobilization through project completion.
• Safety Leadership – Participate in daily safety meetings, job site inspections, and learn how to promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
• Scheduling & Coordination – Assist with coordinating subcontractor activities and monitoring progress to help keep projects on schedule.
• Quality Control – Observe and support quality inspections to ensure work is completed according to project plans, specifications, and ARCO standards.
• Site Logistics
• Trade Coordination – Work with Superintendents and subcontractors to understand sequencing, resolve field issues, and maintain productive workflows.
• Progress Documentation – Assist with documenting daily job site activities, taking progress photos, and preparing daily reports.
• Project Meetings – Attend subcontractor coordination meetings, owner walkthroughs, and project planning discussions to see how field teams communicate and solve challenges.
• Plan & Drawing Review – Become familiar with construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings while learning how they are applied in the field.
• Job Site Walks – Conduct site walks with experienced Superintendents to monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and verify work is performed safely and correctly.
• Training & Learning – Participate in offsite trainings and biweekly learning sessions provided by the Learning and Development team.
• Team Collaboration – Partner with Project Managers and field teams to understand how office and field operations work together to successfully deliver projects.
