Job summary

ARCO Design/Build in Charlotte, NC is offering a Superintendent Intern/Co-op program where you will gain hands-on exposure to the full lifecycle of a project on the job site under the guidance of experienced field leaders.

You’ll engage in field operations, safety, scheduling, quality control, and trade coordination while learning how drawings and specifications are applied in the field. This internship emphasizes mentorship and professional growth within a leading design/build firm.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, Construction Management, Building Science, or Construction Engineering program (other related engineering majors considered).
• Driver's License is required.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.
• Previous Co-op or intern experience in construction preferred, but not required.
• GPA 3.0+ preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Field Operations – expose you to daily job site activities from mobilization through project completion.
• Safety Leadership – participate in daily safety meetings and site inspections.
• Scheduling & Coordination – assist with coordinating subcontractor activities and monitoring progress to keep projects on schedule.
• Quality Control – observe and support quality inspections per project plans and ARCO standards.
• Site Logistics – understand site flow and logistics across a project.
• Trade Coordination – work with Superintendents and subcontractors on sequencing and issue resolution.
• Progress Documentation – document daily activities, take progress photos, and prepare reports.
• Project Meetings – attend subcontractor coordination meetings and owner walkthroughs.
• Plan & Drawing Review – learn construction drawings, specs, and shop drawings in the field.
• Job Site Walks – perform site walks to monitor progress and safety.
• Training & Learning – participate in offsite trainings and biweekly sessions.
• Team Collaboration – partner with Project Managers and field teams to integrate office and field work.

• Trade Coordination – Work with Superintendents and subcontractors to understand sequencing, resolve field issues, and maintain productive workflows.
• Progress Documentation – Assist with documenting daily job site activities, taking progress photos, and preparing daily reports.
• Project Meetings – Attend subcontractor coordination meetings, owner walkthroughs, and project planning discussions to see how field teams communicate and solve challenges.
• Plan & Drawing Review – Become familiar with construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings while learning how they are applied in the field.
• Job Site Walks – Conduct site walks with experienced Superintendents to monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and verify work is performed safely and correctly.
• Training & Learning – Participate in offsite trainings and biweekly learning sessions provided by the Learning and Development team.
• Team Collaboration – Partner with Project Managers and field teams to understand how office and field operations work together to successfully deliver projects.
