Can be based in any U.S. city or state. This traveling position requires up to 75% travel (e.g., 3 weeks or 15 days per month) by automobile, commercial airlines, rental vehicles, or public transportation. A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided.
Overview
William Charles Electric, a MasTec Company, is hiring a Superintendent to support our Power Delivery team in the Midwest. The Superintendent will manage high‑voltage projects including transmission & distribution, substations, and data centers, focusing on field coordination, production, safety, and quality compliance.
Responsibilities
- Review project drawings and conduct material takeoff to ensure an accurate Bill of Materials.
- Meet with local IBEW to discuss project manpower requirements.
- Determine equipment needs and coordinate delivery with fleet.
- Walk down the project before construction for site layout.
- Oversee site construction from below‑grade work through completion.
- Ensure safety and quality requirements are met by performing observations and addressing deviations.
- Mentor crew members.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to confirm schedule and compliance with site policies.
- Attend project meetings and report as required.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, Project Engineer, Field Engineer, crew and back‑office personnel.
- Assist with change orders.
- Layout and maintain a 3‑week look‑ahead schedule.
- Provide work tasks and job progression for the Plan of the Day (POD).
- Update overall schedule as the job progresses.
- Coordinate with the Testing group prior to commissioning.
- Ensure punch‑list items are addressed to the Owner's satisfaction.
- Red‑line drawings to reflect as‑built conditions.
- Review and approve General Foreman timecards in Heavy Bid.
- Safety planning for all field operations, including busy road right‑away, rock boring, environmental hazards, and fire hazards.
- Personnel management: setting production, safety, and quality goals.
- Identify resources needed—including personnel and equipment—for job sites.
- Manage and update the work schedule.
- Contribute to the monthly cost to complete projects and advise the Project Manager.
- Report weekly quantities completed accurately.
- Review progress and performance weekly with the Project Manager.
Qualifications
- 10 to 15+ years of experience with thorough knowledge of substation construction.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred; education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proficient with ProCore, MS Teams, and similar office programs.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, and procedures, contracts, or governmental regulations.
- Write reports and document project activities.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers and superintendents.
