Coakley & Williams Construction is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site operations for commercial, public sector, and education projects in the Washington, DC area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily on-site construction operations from mobilization through project closeout.
  • Enforce company safety policies and applicable local, state, and federal safety requirements.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, field personnel, material deliveries, inspections, equipment, and site logistics.
  • Partner with the Project Manager to establish project goals, responsibilities, staffing plans, and execution strategies.
  • Develop, review, and maintain project schedules in coordination with the project scheduler and project team.
  • Monitor short-term schedules, manpower, materials, and subcontractor performance to maintain project progress.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, requests for information, and other contract documents for constructability and coordination issues.
  • Develop a complete understanding of subcontractor scopes of work and help prevent scope gaps and unnecessary change orders.
  • Confirm subcontractors are working from current drawings, specifications, and supplemental information.
  • Implement and maintain the company’s quality control program.
  • Lead preconstruction and preparatory meetings before major phases of work begin.
  • Coordinate permits, inspections, commissioning, punch list completion, and project closeout.
  • Maintain accurate as-built documents throughout the project.
  • Manage general conditions and field labor costs.
  • Communicate regularly with owners, architects, engineers, construction managers, subcontractors, inspectors, and internal project teams.
  • Participate in project reviews, preconstruction activities, interviews, presentations, and proposal efforts as needed.
  • Mentor and support the development of project team members.
  • Use current construction technology and project management software to complete assigned responsibilities.

Coakley & Williams Construction is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site operations for commercial, public sector, and education construction projects.

The Superintendent is responsible for safety, quality, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, field leadership, and daily project execution. This role works closely with the Project Manager and project team to complete projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
  • At least five years of experience managing construction projects valued at more than $20 million.
  • Demonstrated experience leading field operations for commercial, public sector, education, or similarly complex construction projects.
  • Proven record of supporting client satisfaction, project profitability, safety, quality, and schedule performance.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification, First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Procore, bluebeam, Primavera scheduling, and Business Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and related project documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience working across commercial, public sector, and education construction markets.
  • Experience participating in preconstruction, project pursuits, client interviews, or proposal presentations.
  • Experience mentoring assistant superintendents, field engineers, project engineers, or other project team members.
Compensation and Benefits

In accordance with the Maryland Wage Transparency Law, the base salary range for this position is:

$90,000 to $160,000 annually

Final compensation will be based on the selected candidate’s experience, qualifications, education, skills, and training.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position is primarily based on active construction sites. Employees must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop, bend, and move throughout the jobsite. The role may require lifting, carrying, or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Employees may work around heavy machinery, construction equipment, hazardous materials, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions. A minimum of 40 hours per week is required. Work schedules may vary based on project needs and may include evenings, nights, or weekends.
