Job summary

McGrath & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on complex life sciences projects in North Carolina's Research Triangle.

You will coordinate subcontractors, manage schedules, ensure safety and quality, and collaborate with PMs, engineers, and commissioning teams. The role requires 5+ years as a lead Superintendent in life sciences or high-tech construction, strong MEP knowledge, and professional certification (OSHA 30).

Qualifications

• Lead daily field operations on life sciences projects
• Read and interpret complex MEP drawings and submittals
• Develop and maintain 3-week look-ahead schedules
• Coordinate subcontractors, site logistics, manpower, and sequencing
• Maintain a strong safety culture and enforce EHS, cleanroom, and cGMP requirements
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project or Primavera P6
• Degree in Construction Management, Building Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred—equivalent field experience valued
• OSHA 30 required

Responsibilities

• Lead daily field operations on pharmaceutical, cGMP cleanroom, laboratory, biotechnology, life science, and process manufacturing projects
• Coordinate subcontractors, site logistics, manpower, and sequencing of work
• Read and interpret complex MEP drawings, process piping layouts, HVAC systems, controls, and technical submittals
• Develop and maintain 3-week look-ahead schedules and keep critical activities moving
• Coordinate utility tie-ins, shutdowns, and other high-impact field activities
• Maintain a strong safety culture and enforce EHS requirements, cleanroom protocols, and cGMP standards
• Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, commissioning agents, equipment vendors, and trade partners
• Support commissioning and startup activities
• Maintain accurate daily reports, RFIs, safety documentation, and field change information using project software (e.g., Procore)
• Identify potential problems early and work with the project team to find solutions before they impact the schedule

We’re a 100% employee-owned construction manager and general contractor with a strong pipeline of technically challenging work, and we’re looking for an experienced Superintendent to help lead life sciences construction in North Carolina's Research Triangle.

What you'll actually be doing:

What we're looking for:

• 5+ years of experience as a lead Construction Superintendent
• Experience with life sciences, pharmaceutical, laboratory, medical, or other high-tech construction
• Strong understanding of MEP systems, HVAC filtration, process piping, gas lines, and cleanroom environments
• Ability to read and understand complex construction drawings and specifications
• Experience coordinating multiple specialized trades on active jobsites
• Strong communication, organization, and field leadership skills
• OSHA 30 required
• First Aid/CPR and cGMP training preferred
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project
• Degree in Construction Management, Building Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred—but equivalent field experience is absolutely valued
