Job summary

Allan Myers Inc. seeks a seasoned Superintendent to lead heavy civil projects in Virginia. Plan work, organize staffing, and communicate productivity, quality and safety expectations to crews to meet schedule and cost goals.

You will supervise field managers, optimize equipment use, review costs with the Project Manager, and coordinate with the owner, engineer and customer to ensure safe, compliant project execution under the Allan Myers Safety Program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required (equivalent work experience will be considered)
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred (continuing education in construction highly desirable)
• Minimum 6 years of heavy civil construction experience with at least 2 years of Superintendent experience required
• Experience in multiple trade disciplines preferred
• OSHA 30 hour certification required (those not having this credential must certify or be enrolled in a certification course within 6 months of hire/promotion)
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency across major civil construction disciplines.
• Plans work to maximize crew productivity and manages staffing plans for each phase.
• Supervises field managers and mentors crews, maximizing equipment use and scheduling field personnel.
• Reviews job cost with Project Manager, Field Managers and implements adjustments as needed.
• Follows Allan Myers Safety Program including preplanning, PPE and accident investigation.
• Coordinates with Field Managers, other Superintendents and customer to implement project plans and maintains professional relationships.
• Inspects construction work to ensure quality requirements and standards are met.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field

OSHA 30 hour certification

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid driver’s license

Job description

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates technical proficiency in multiple aspects of one of the following work processes (i.e., bridge, highway, excavation, pipe, concrete or paving, grading, mechanical and/or other relevant disciplines).
• Has a complete understanding of the plan details and specifications of assigned projects including the estimate, man-hour budget and production rates.
• Plans and organizes work to maximize potential crew productivity. Establishes work plans and staffing plans for each phase of the project. Communicates performance expectations for productivity, quality, and safety to crews and monitors progress to ensure schedule and financial goals are met.
• Supervises field managers for assigned projects and plans/schedules manpower and equipment as needed. Mentors/coaches field managers in leading their crews. Maximizes equipment utilization levels and schedules field personnel assignments.
• Reviews job cost with Project Manager, Field Managers and implements adjustments as needed.
• Follows the Allan Myers Safety Program including preplanning to identify conditions and exposures, proper safety and personal protective equipment and accident investigation and reporting.
• Coordinates and collaborates with Field Managers, other Superintendents and the customer to implement successful project plans. Maintains professional relationships with the owner, engineer and other members of the construction team.
• Inspects construction work as necessary to ensure quality requirements and standards are met.
