Job summary

Ajax Building Company, part of the STO Building Group, seeks a hands-on Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations, manage craft and subcontractor teams, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to high client standards.

The Superintendent reports to the General Superintendent and collaborates with clients, inspectors, and trade partners while upholding rigorous safety practices and project controls.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of supervisory experience in construction.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field.
• Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills.
• Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (tech, equipment, methods).
• Thorough knowledge of all safety requirements.
• Ability to motivate employees and handle project situations.

Responsibilities

• Hire, train, evaluate, and manage craft personnel per policy.
• Supervise craft personnel, subcontractors, and field ops to meet design, budget, schedule.
• Plan and oversee daily on-site activity: manpower, materials, equipment, sequencing.
• Interpret drawings and specs; advise on construction methods and equipment.
• Support project management with procedures, standards, and field docs.
• Interface with clients, inspectors, and trade partners for project success.
• Enforce safety policies; promote safety culture and take corrective actions.
• Monitor productivity, resources, and overall project performance.
• Review and approve field transactions such as requisitions and field changes.
• Perform or oversee layout and field engineering activities.

Ajax Building Company, part of the STO Building Group, is looking for a hands‑on construction leader who thrives in the field and takes pride in delivering exceptional projects. As Superintendent, you will lead day‑to‑day field operations, manage craft and subcontractor teams, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the high standards our clients expect.

The Superintendent reports to and is directly accountable to the General Superintendent.

Essential Functions

• Hire, train, evaluate, and manage craft personnel in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Supervise and coordinate craft employees, subcontractors, and field operations to ensure work is executed per design, budget, and schedule.
• Plan, organize, and oversee daily on‑site construction activities, including manpower, materials, equipment, and sequencing.
• Interpret drawings and specifications; provide technical guidance and recommend construction methods and equipment.
• Support project management in developing and implementing project procedures, standards, and field documentation.
• Interface with clients, inspectors, and trade partners to support successful project execution.
• Enforce safety policies and procedures; promote a strong safety culture, document violations, and implement corrective actions in coordination with Safety leadership.
• Monitor productivity, resource utilization, and overall project performance to meet contractual requirements.
• Review and approve field‑related transactions such as purchase requisitions and field change requests as applicable.
• Perform or oversee layout and field engineering activities.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of relevant supervisory experience in the construction field.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field.
• Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills
• Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, and methods).
• Thorough knowledge of all safety requirements.
• The ability to motivate employees and handle any situation that occurs on the project.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to perform the following tasks:

• Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers with full use of hands, arms and fingers.
• See well (either naturally or with correction).
• Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding.
• Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or work at any height.
• Lift and carry objects weighting up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
