Job summary

Holloway Construction, Inc. seeks a Construction Specialist to perform hands-on underground utility and civil infrastructure work on commercial and school projects in Hanford, CA. This role leverages your field expertise to install water, sewer, and storm systems without excessive management layers.

You will read blueprints, set lines and grades, trench, backfill, and ensure proper inspections and testing. A valid California Class A CDL is preferred; travel is required.

Qualifications

  • Must have hands-on experience installing underground water, sewer, storm drain systems.
  • Experience constructing manholes, drain inlets, catch basins, and concrete structures.
  • Strong reading of blueprints and civil plans.
  • Ability to trench, shore, bed pipe, backfill, and test systems.
  • Clean driving record and pass pre-employment screenings.

Job Overview
  • Company: Holloway Construction, Inc.
  • Salary/Pay Rate: $22.00 to $28.00 per hour (Subject to Davis-Bacon and CA Prevailing Wage rates).
  • $22.00 to $25.00 per hour (Without a Class A CDL)
  • $25.00 to $28.00 per hour (With a valid California Class A CDL)
  • Location: Hanford, CA (Travel Required).
  • Job/Employment Type: Full Time.
  • Project Scope: Commercial and School Underground Utility & Civil Construction.
  • Mandatory Licences & Certifications: Acceptable Driving Record, Clean Employment Screenings.

You will take on a vital, hands-on field role with direct responsibility for building the critical infrastructure that keeps projects moving forward. Working on commercial and school projects, you will operate without layers of distant corporate management, bringing your practical expertise to wet utilities, concrete installations, and site work. How You Will Make An Impact
  • Perform physical, hands-on underground utility installation for water, sewer, storm drain, and fire service systems.
  • Install pipes, fittings, valves, hydrants, cleanouts, utility boxes, and related structural components.
  • Construct and install manholes, drain inlets, catch basins, and miscellaneous concrete structures, including forming, reinforcing, placement, and finishing.
  • Set pipe to the precise line, grade, slope, and elevation using lasers, levels, grade rods, and field equipment.
  • Assist with critical ground operations, including trenching, shoring, pipe bedding, backfilling, compaction, and site restoration.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, civil plans, utility profiles, specifications, and layout details to execute field work accurately.
  • Assist with mandatory utility testing, municipal inspections, active tie-ins, and complex system connections.
  • Maintain field tools, heavy equipment, company vehicles, and secure work areas while executing general construction labor.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven hands-on experience installing underground water, sewer, storm drain, and fire service systems.
  • Direct experience constructing or installing manholes, drain inlets, catch basins, and miscellaneous concrete structures.
  • Solid track record of working on commercial build-outs or school construction jobsites.
  • Core ability to read blueprints, civil plans, utility profiles, and complex construction details.
  • Deep working knowledge of trenching, shoring, pipe installation, bedding, backfill, compaction, and testing procedures.
  • Clear understanding of grades, slopes, elevations, and survey staking.
  • Clean driving record and the absolute ability to pass all required pre-employment screenings.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong experience operating heavy construction equipment, including excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, and compactors.
  • Experience hauling heavy equipment and building materials using commercial trucks and trailers.
  • Prior experience working on public works and prevailing wage construction projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of modern trench safety standards and confined-space procedures.
  • Possession of a valid California Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Physical Requirements
  • Absolute ability to perform strenuous physical labor throughout the entire workday.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull construction materials and field equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, stand, walk, and work securely in deep trenches or across uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work comfortably outdoors in extreme heat, cold, dust, rain, and variable weather environments.
