Short-Elliott-Hendrickson, Incorporated is seeking a Construction Services Engineer to join our team in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. You will provide on-site representation for transportation projects, perform field duties, and support documentation and testing activities while coordinating with engineers, landowners, utilities, and contractors.

Ideal candidates have a Civil Engineering background, strong communication and organizational skills, and a willingness to travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain HTCP certifications.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
• Ability to calculate project quantities accurately.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Willingness to learn construction administration software such as AASHTOWare, OneOffice, Bluebeam, or Adobe.
• Commitment to SEH’s Quality and Safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site representation for transportation projects and support tasks such as documentation, material testing, survey coordination, and more.
• Travel to project sites as needed to complete field responsibilities.
• Assist with field observations on less complex construction projects to ensure conformance with contract documents.
• Maintain daily documentation of certified work and enter quantities into record-keeping systems.
• Communicate regularly with engineers, contractors, landowners, utility companies, and public stakeholders regarding project progress and concerns.
• Support monitoring of contractor schedules and construction progress, reporting updates to senior construction staff and project managers.
• Assist in developing project punch lists and compiling final documentation in accordance with contract requirements.
• Help prepare record drawings and maintain project files and digital records.
• Monitor contractor activities on-site under direct supervision.
• Handle basic issues independently and elevate more complex matters to senior staff.

This Opportunity: Join our team based in Rice Lake, Wisconsin in this year-round opportunity to develop both construction and design skills. Participate in field activities on projects with varying levels of complexity and construction conditions. Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to obtain required HTCP certifications.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information professionally to internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
• Ability to calculate project quantities accurately.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Willingness to learn construction administration software such as AASHTOWare, OneOffice, Bluebeam, or Adobe.
• Commitment to SEH’s Quality and Safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 0–5 years of experience in the construction industry, with knowledge of construction techniques, estimating, scheduling, and construction administration.
• Knowledge of WisDOT construction policies/practices.
• Willingness and ability to travel long distances daily, if required.
• Familiarity with Civil 3D.

This position requires an MVR records check verifying that you possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record which meets the requirements of SEH’s Driving Program.

Benefits

• Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $28.39/hr and $35.07/hr based on skill set and experience.
