Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of construction safety experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and senior management.
  • OSHA 30 certification and valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Preferred certifications (CHST, COSS, COSM, CSP) or equivalent.

  • Conduct safety audits of field personnel, PPE, and permits (Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Excavation, etc.).
  • Assist in field incident investigations with EHSS leadership and site management.
  • Generate incident reports, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans.
  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and tailgate sessions with subcontractors and clients.
  • Perform atmospheric monitoring and record results.
  • Develop and enforce site-specific safety plans and permits.
  • Provide safety leadership and resources to Contractor employees.

On-Site Safety Specialist
Job Summary:

The Construction Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs across active construction projects. This role serves as a key liaison between the company HSE team and field operations, working closely with subcontractors, clients, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety requirements. The Safety Specialist is expected to spend approximately 90% of their time in the field, promoting a strong safety culture through proactive risk management, regulatory compliance, and visible leadership.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:
  • Conduct safety audits of all field personnel, PPE, and validating permits: Hot Work, Permit Required Confined Space Entry, Excavation etc.
  • Assist in field accident/incident investigation in conjunction with EHSS Mgr., Supervision, Maintenance Manager/Site Contractor Manager, Contractor Supervision or Contractor Safety.
  • Generates accident/incident reporting, root cause analysis, corrective action plan for site requirements.
  • Complete five (5) Behavior Based Safety Observations per shift
  • Conduct safety meetings/tailgate meetings within contractor/client groups.
  • Conduct atmospheric monitoring of all work areas and record results accordingly.
  • Support in developing, implementing, and revisiting a site-specific EHS plan.
  • Supports Job Safety Analysis and Site-Specific Rescue Plans for each job.
  • Acts as a resource for Contractor employees.
  • Take personal ownership and responsibility for protecting people from harm and developing strategies that drive performance and support continuous improvement.
  • Manage and oversee day-to-day construction safety operations across assigned projects.
  • Lead and facilitate large group safety meetings, orientations, and toolbox talks with subcontractors, clients, and company personnel.
  • Identify hazards and work with project teams to develop and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare incident reports, safety alerts, and regulatory documentation as required.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific safety plans, procedures, and permits.
  • Support and protect company interests by ensuring contractual safety requirements and client expectations are met.
  • Promote employee safety, accountability, and engagement through consistent field presence and leadership.
  • Complete daily workgroup interaction reports, documenting positive and at-risk behaviors.
  • Immediately report serious safety violations and unsafe conditions to the Site Safety Manager.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Minimum of 3-7 years of construction safety experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with corporate-level clients and senior management.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid state driver's license.
Preferred:
  • Safety certifications such as CHST, COSS, COSM, CSP, or equivalent.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • OSHA 500, 510, 501, or 511 certifications.
