Job summary

Vulcan Elements in the United States seeks a Safety Specialist to oversee on-site construction safety at the Benson, NC facility. You will develop, implement, and enforce enterprise-wide safety programs with an emphasis on regulatory compliance and contractor safety performance.

You will lead risk-based inspections, investigate incidents, manage JHAs, and collaborate with engineering and Legal to ensure safe project execution as the site scales nationwide.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction safety on large industrial projects.
• Knowledge of OSHA construction standards and incident investigation.
• Ability to lead safety programs and contractor management.
• Completed OSHA 30-hour training.

Responsibilities

• Design and stand up Construction & Contractor Safety Program with enterprise-wide standards.
• Develop contractor prequalification framework and safety scorecard for award decisions.
• Draft safety-related contract provisions with Legal and Procurement.
• Establish and formalize stop-work authority and escalation protocols.
• Lead independent incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Conduct risk-based site inspections focusing on structural steel, crane operations, hot work, and confined space entry.
• Audit JHAs and incident reports against internal standards and drive corrective actions.
• Build and maintain a leading-indicator safety dashboard for executive visibility.
• Verify stormwater and erosion control compliance during construction.
• Partner with Factory Engineering Manager to embed EHS into design decisions.
