Job summary

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Manager to provide on-site safety oversight for a pharmaceutical project in Philadelphia, PA.   • Bachelor's degree in construction management, safety, or related field.
  • 3+ years on-site experience in construction health & safety.
  • CHST, ASP, CSP certifications preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical or high-tech project experience highly desired.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry and construction standards.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction, confined space, and fall protection training preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite and project coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Observe on-site construction activities from an EHS perspective and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Promote safety culture among owner, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Train on-site workers and subs on EHS program requirements.
  • Document safety activities, JHAs, SDSs, and toolbox talks.

Job description

ERM is hiring an experienced Construction Safety Manager to provide on-site support for our key pharmaceutical client in Philadelphia, PA. In this critical role, you will be responsible for providing on-site observation of construction activities from an EHS perspective, ensuring health and safety compliance with applicable regulations and existing company standards, and contributing to an environment where employee health and safety are preserved. You will be present during all site activities and responsible for all health and safety activities, and the delegation of duties to any other project team members. This is a full-time (40+ hours/week), limited-term role for a duration of 12 months, renewable.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with general contractors and subcontractors on behalf of the owner, as the owners representative.
  • Promote client safety culture across contractor and subcontractor groups.
  • Proactively identify uncontrolled hazards and influence safe work practices of general contractors and subcontractors on behalf of the owner.
  • On-site observation of construction activities from an EHS perspective.
  • Documentation of activities with respect to required EHS performance.
  • Train on-site workers on EHS oversight program requirements.
  • Train on-site subcontractors on EHS oversight program requirements.
  • Help administer project directives given by the Client’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) personnel throughout the project.
  • Report on whether project staff and trade contractors are complying with the Client’s safety procedures and are working in accordance with the approved project-specific safety plan.
  • Maintain required safety-related documentation on the project site, including, but not limited to, safety orientation training, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), SDSs, pre-task assessments, and toolbox talk summaries.
  • Participate in daily pre-shift coordination meetings to include review of the day’s activities and associated hazards.
  • Review and comment on the General Contractor’s JHAs with project trades and obtain signatures prior to commencement of work.
  • Conduct daily site inspections, focusing on work site orderliness and compliance with safety procedures and protocols.
  • Proposed corrections of safety deviations will be discussed with the General Contractor’s Safety Manager, and support will be provided for implementing corrective actions.
  • Issue daily site observation reports for each site inspection.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, safety, or occupational health and safety, or a related degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of on-site experience in construction-specific project health & safety.
  • Certification in the field: CHST, ASP, and/or CSP are preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical or high-tech project experience is highly desired.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry and construction standards.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including implementing strict Health and Safety protocols.
  • Completed training and certifications for OSHA 30-hour construction, confined space entry training, and fall protection/prevention training preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to multitask, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to provide excellent project delivery and client service, quality on project deliverables, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors.

Pay Transparency: For the Construction Safety position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $100,464 - $112,756.80, $48.30/hr. - $54.21/hr. USD, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible). We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life & disability insurance to benefits eligible employees. *Benefits Eligibility is limited to Regular employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Fixed-Term employees (including Flexforce) who are regularly scheduled to work 20 hours a week or more are eligible for a limited benefits package. Casual employees are NOT benefits eligible.
