Job summary

Southland Holdings is seeking a Safety Professional to oversee all safety aspects of a large project in Chinle, AZ. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities include leading daily safety meetings, enforcing PPE and safety protocols, investigating incidents, and managing safety across subcontractors, with on-site presence throughout active work periods.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30 hour in Construction (required)
• OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER (plus)
• CHST/STSC/OSHA 510/500/502/ACOE EM-385-1-1 (plus)
• RCRA/DOT Hazardous Waste training (preferred)
• First Aid/CPR certified (required)
• Lockout/Tagout experience (required)
• Fall Protection/Scaffolding/Steel Erection/Excavation experience (required)

Responsibilities

• Lead daily safety meetings and site safety oversight
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols within powerline limits
• Complete accident reports and investigations
• Enforce PPE usage for all personnel
• Conduct daily safety audits and inspections
• Oversee subcontractors and contractors on site
• Inspect power tools and heavy equipment for safe operation
• Prepare job hazard analyses (JHA) and EHS documentation
• Manage fall protection, scaffolding, steel erection, and excavation activities
• Remain on site full-time during active work and verify EHS risks are addressed
• Review JHAs to ensure hazards are identified and communicated
• Perform EHS inspections and take corrective actions as needed
• Work in heavy highway construction, tunneling, bridges, and underground utilities

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 4+ years of heavy civil experience
• Experience with water/wasterwater, pipe, concrete
• Structural experience is a plus
• CSHO, CHST or CSP a plus
• Willing to travel/relocate
• Ability to communicate in Spanish a plus

DUTIES:

• Conduct daily safety meetings
• Ensure all personnel complies with safe construction within powerline limits
• Complete accident reports and conduct accident investigations
• Ensure all personnel wear their personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Daily safety audits and inspections
• Oversee all subcontractors and contractors
• Inspect power tools and heavy equipment
• Write job hazard analysis (JHA) and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)
• Oversee Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Steel Erection, and Excavation
• Manager shall be at the job site full time whenever work is in progress during all shifts.
• Manager shall review JHA’s to verify that the work activity’s EHS issues and hazards are accurately identified, addressed, and communicated.
• Manager shall conduct EHS inspections a minimum of twice a shift to ensure that all machines, tools and equipment are in a safe operating condition, and that all work area are free of safety and environmental hazards. Take necessary and immediate corrective actions, where feasible, to eliminate all unsafe acts and/or conditions.
• Experience in the following areas: Construction: Heavy Highway Construction, Tunneling, Bridge Construction, Underground Utilities, ACOE

REQUIREMENTS:

• 4-10 years of relevant construction experience
• OSHA 30 hour in Construction certification
• OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER a plus
• Training a plus: CHST; STSC; OSHA 510; 500, 502, ACOE EM-385-1-1 a plus
• RCRA/DOT Hazardous Waste/Manifesting training
• First Aid/CPR certified
• Control of Hazardous Energy Sources (Lockout/Tagout)
• Experience with Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Steel Erection, and Excavation
