Job summary

Kokosing is seeking a Safety Co-op to support project teams in promoting a safe work environment. You will gain hands-on experience with safety practices, regulatory compliance, hazard recognition, training, incident prevention, and safety planning.

The ideal candidate is eager to learn construction safety and contribute to a culture where every employee goes home safely each day, at projects across Indiana, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, or Maryland.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
• All levels of students are eligible (freshman to senior).
• Previous construction, industrial, manufacturing, or safety-related experience is beneficial but not required.
• Interest in workplace safety and continuous learning is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Safety Specialists and project teams with implementing safety policies.
• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning.
• Conduct jobsite walkthroughs to identify hazards and improvement opportunities.
• Document safety inspections, observations, audits, and corrective actions.
• Support development of project safety plans and training records.
• Help prepare safety communications and project updates.
• Observe field operations and how safety requirements apply to construction or plant activities.
• Assist with incident reporting and investigations while learning root cause analysis.
• Support onboarding and orientation related to safety requirements.
• Collaborate with project staff to promote a positive safety culture.
• Maintain records and assist with data collection on safety performance.
