Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Chicago is seeking an Entry-level Environmental Health and Safety specialist to assist with enforcement of safety policies on a construction project in Chicago, IL. The position is salaried non-exempt with a 2026 start window (Winter or Summer 2026).

The role involves training, reviewing subcontractor safety programs, drug screening administration, orientation coordination, and safety meetings to protect workers and property on the project.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of related construction safety experience.
• Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principles and regulations.
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local EH&S regulations.
• Familiar with general construction operations.
• Ability to identify safety related exposures and propose corrective actions.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with providing training for safe work practices and safety programs.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with policies and regulations.
• Review subcontractors' training as per OSHA standards.
• Promote safe work practices and safe working conditions per regulations and contract requirements.
• Administer drug screening program (pre-employment, post-accident, random).
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings with supervisor.
• Conduct worker orientation and record participation.
• Gather Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for contractors.
• Maintain safety records (PTPs, JHAs, training, tool box meetings, OSHA 300 log, MSDS).
• Conduct Safety meetings and record meeting minutes.
• Maintain log of subcontractor toolbox safety meetings and provide summary to supervisor.
• Conduct project site safety audits and inspections with corrective actions.
