Job summary

The LiRo Group seeks a Resident Engineer for NYSDOT projects in the Western Bronx. The RE will oversee daily construction, ensure design/spec/safety compliance, and coordinate with contractors, regulators, and clients to drive successful delivery.

The ideal candidate holds a NY PE license, 10+ years in highway/bridge projects, and proficiency with Procore, Primavera P6, and MS Project. We offer a comprehensive benefits package and a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • NY Professional Engineer license is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction supervision or resident engineering.
  • Experience with NYSDOT/NYCDOT and large highway/bridge projects.
  • Ability to supervise staff and work independently in a multi-agency environment.
  • Knowledge of shop drawing review, scheduling, permitting and inspection requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the client’s on-site representative during construction.
  • Monitor daily construction activities for QA and compliance with specs and codes.
  • Coordinate with design engineers, contractors, inspectors, and PM staff.
  • Lead regular site inspections and field meetings with stakeholders.
  • Review/approve submittals, RFIs, change orders, and progress payments.
  • Maintain daily reports, logs, and as-built documentation.
  • Identify and mitigate risks; elevate critical issues as needed.
  • Enforce OSHA safety policies and environmental/regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in project meetings and prepare status reports for management.
  • Support invoicing and project cost/schedule monitoring with the PM and Billing teams.

We have an immediate need for an Resident Engineer for our (Western) Bronx NYSDOT project teams.

Responsibilities

The Resident Engineer (RE) serves as the on-site representative of the project management team, responsible for overseeing daily construction activities, ensuring project compliance with design specifications, schedules, budgets, and safety standards. The RE plays a vital role in coordinating between contractors, consultants, clients, and regulatory agencies, ensuring successful delivery of engineering and construction projects. This role supports NYSDOT major highway, bridge/roadway construction projects.

  • Act as the client’s on-site representative during construction.
  • Monitor daily construction activities for quality assurance and compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards, including gathering detailed measurements.
  • Coordinate with design engineers, construction contractors, inspectors, and program management staff.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and lead field meetings with stakeholders.
  • Review and approve contractor submittals, RFIs, change orders, and progress payments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports, logs, as-builts, photographs, Correspondence and Documentation of Contractor Performance
  • Identify and mitigate construction-related risks or delays; elevate critical issues when necessary.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA and project-specific requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings and prepare status reports for senior management and client stakeholders.
  • Ensure environmental, permitting, and regulatory compliance on-site.
  • Contract Administration
  • Work with the Project Manager and/or Billing team for invoicing and Payment Processing, while Monitoring Contract Cost and Schedule
Qualifications
  • NY Professional Engineer License Required.
  • NYSDOT or NYCDOT experience required.
  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction supervision, site engineering, or resident engineering.
  • Familiarity with managing projects in highly populated areas (including the NYC metropolitan area) and over major highways and railroad.
  • Experience working with multiple agencies, including NYCDEP, NYSDOT, NYCDEC, MTA, NYCDOT-OCMC.
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Experience working on highway, bridge and/or rail projects.
  • The Resident Engineer should possess a working knowledge of the following: shop drawing review, scheduling, permitting and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to overall team success.
  • Experience with large-scale or multi-site program management environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with project delivery methods (e.g., Design-Bid-Build, CM/GC, Design- Build).
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Strong knowledge of construction codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills.

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package and a positive work environment
  • Compensation: Min $200,000/yr. - Max $225,000/yr.
  • The range provided is the salary that the Firm in good faith believes at the time of this posting is willing to pay for the advertised position.
