Job summary

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Construction Resident Engineer to lead field staff on road and bridge projects in Frisco, TX. The role emphasizes contract administration, field engineering services, and coordination of mid- to large-scale highway construction work.

The candidate should have a Civil Engineer degree, PE license, and 6+ years of transportation project experience, including safety-focused field activities, permits, and QA/QC responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • 6+ years of Resident Engineering experience for transportation projects.
  • 10 HR, OSHA, DOT HMA and Concrete Level 1, and DOT Aggregates certifications.
  • Partnering approach to Construction Management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • DOT, Tollway, and/or Local Agency federally funded construction experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the construction inspection team.
  • Plan, prepare, and analyze construction documents.
  • Manage construction contracts utilizing CMMS software.
  • Supervise inspector daily reports for contractor progress payments.
  • Review contractor schedules, staging plans, and traffic control plans for contract compliance.
  • Meet with contractors to review work plans and resolve scheduling issues.
  • Assign, schedule, supervise, and accept work on behalf of the client.
  • Prioritize safety of personnel and the traveling public.
  • Oversee contracts and supervise Inspectors, Materials Coordinators, Office Engineers, and Admin staff.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with schedule, budget, specs, and legal requirements.
  • Conduct progress meetings and prepare project status reports.
  • Communicate and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify and address changes, conflicts, or ambiguities in plans and field conditions.
  • Negotiate and resolve contractor conflicts and claims.
  • Conduct field visits to inspect conditions and issues.
  • Participate as a key member of the client’s project delivery team.

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Construction Resident Engineer. The role involves field work on road and bridge construction projects. The candidate must have a strong background in construction management with residential streets, highways, bridges, utility relocation, trunk water main/sewer, retaining walls, stormwater pollution prevention, traffic control review, and related facilities. The position may involve occasional exposure to heavy traffic or adverse weather and requires clear thinking and effective action under such conditions.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and supervise the construction inspection team.
  • Plan, prepare, and analyze construction documents.
  • Manage construction contracts utilizing CMMS software.
  • Supervise the preparation of inspector daily reports for inclusion on contractor progress payment estimates.
  • Direct and assist staff in reviewing and analyzing contractor project schedules, staging plans, traffic control plans, and other required submittals to ensure they meet contract requirements and restrictions.
  • Meet with contractors regularly to understand and review work plan and schedule, resolve issues in work areas, address scheduling concerns and sequence operations.
  • Assign, schedule, supervise, review, and accept the work on behalf of client.
  • Ensure that safety of personnel and the traveling public is paramount in all work activities.
  • Administer contracts and confirm compliance in accordance with contract plans and specifications. Oversee the activities of Construction Inspectors, Materials Coordinators, Office Engineers, and Administrative personnel.
  • Monitor contractors’ work for compliance to schedule, budget, technical specifications, and legal requirements.
  • Conduct progress meetings and prepare reports on project status.
  • Communicate and implement safety policies, and procedures.
  • Recognize and act promptly on potential changes or additional work, contract conflicts or ambiguities in the plans and specifications and changes in field conditions.
  • Negotiate, analyze, resolve, settle, deny, and/or make recommendations regarding contractor conflicts and claims considering contract plans and specifications, estimates, conditions, costs, and time.
  • Conduct field visits to examine construction site conditions and issues.
  • Participate actively as a key member of the client’s construction team for project delivery.
