Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking a Project Quality Manager to lead quality activities across one or more projects. This role ensures conformance to contract requirements, project specs, and the Quality Management System, guiding corrective actions and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate has a technical background and 2–5 years in quality or construction, with strong communication, problem solving, and attention to detail. Travel and site presence are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant work experience.
• 2-5 years of relevant technical, quality or construction experience.
• Knowledge of construction standards/specifications (USACE, DOT, ASTM, ACI, AASHTO) preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems in a collaborative approach with coworkers.
• Must be self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
• Possess high attention to detail with the ability to recognize deficiencies.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize workload.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment and adjust priorities based on evolving project changes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Outlook, SharePoint, Project Management software.
• Must have a valid driver's license and ability to pass MVR.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Project Quality Plan and ensure compliance with the Quality Management System.
• Ensure corrective actions are completed timely and verify effectiveness.
• Report and manage nonconformances (NCRs) and deficiencies.
• Identify and mitigate potential quality risks through pre-activity meetings and quality walks.
• Review work plans and documents to embed quality activities.
• Conduct internal audits for compliance with QMS and project requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues promptly.
• Maintain accuracy of quality documents and records.
• Coordinate third-party testing and inspection personnel.
• Foster client relationships through open communication.
• Promote continuous improvement by sharing best practices.
• Document project quality activities and performance per schedule.
• Train project teams on QMS processes and tools.
• Report project KPIs related to quality performance.
• Investigate quality issues with vendors and suppliers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
