Hurd Construction Management is seeking Florida-based Construction Managers and Construction Project Managers

We are looking for talented, career-minded individuals based in Florida who want to continue building a project management career within the commercial development, construction, and real estate industries. Project managers play a critical role in ensuring that our customers' and Hurd's quality control standards are met and maintained with a high degree of customer service. This role will directly service the commercial business operations in support of Hurd Construction Management's objectives. Positions are available for General Contracting (GC) and Construction Management (CMa) lines of business in central, southeast, southwest, and north Florida territories.

Who is Hurd Construction Management?

Hurd Construction Management is a Jacksonville, Florida based construction advisor and general contracting firm specializing in commercial buildouts and renovations, new construction, and development, where delivering a strong and consistent brand experience is crucial. Projects primarily include retail, restaurant, office, and other commercial spaces throughout Florida. Hurd also focuses on providing systematic construction program management to streamline and strengthen large-scale, multi-site initiatives.

What does the role pay?

This is a full-time hybrid role with a pay range of $78,000 to $114,000 total compensation, including an annual bonus at plan. Base salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Travel

  • 70% of time involves performing internal planning, coordination, and administrative functions.
  • 30% of time involves travel throughout Florida overseeing assigned projects. Overnight travel may be required from time to time.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Vice President (VP), the Project Manager is responsible for all facets of project management, including budgeting, scheduling, tracking, procurement, document control, safety, quality, and managing multiple General Contracting or Construction Management projects. Duties include coordinating and integrating multiple projects and collaborating with people, suppliers, and stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all construction activities, coordinate work and schedules with division leaders and the project team.
  • Collaborate with site Superintendents to evaluate and determine appropriate construction means, methods, and strategies, employing the most cost-effective plan and schedule.
  • Promote and maintain client relationships.
  • Review drawings and specifications, monitor progress, and ensure contractual compliance with plans and schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of job estimates by interpreting bid documents.
  • Develop and write subcontracts and purchase order requisitions as required.
  • Establish, track, and manage project schedules to ensure critical path requirements are met, collaborating with site Superintendents.
  • Manage submittal and RFI processes, ensuring review and approval of all information.
  • Ensure project financial success by establishing and managing budgets; prepare and report on job costs, actively working to meet project earnings.
  • Collaborate with the project team to improve production, efficiencies, and reduce expenses.
  • Work closely with the Construction Operations Manager and/or VP regarding resource needs to meet project schedules.
  • Assist with safety compliance, monitor adherence to safety requirements, and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure timely submission of all project documentation.
  • Make regular site visits for coordination with the site Superintendent.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for site Superintendents on assigned projects.
  • Communicate directly with project Owners, Construction Managers, and project teams.
  • Attend onsite coordination and project-specific meetings.
  • Assist customers and support sales opportunities by developing and auditing proposal components such as specifications, scopes of work, and clarifications.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, contracts, manuals, technical correspondence, and instructions.
  • Experience in contracts and construction procurement processes.
  • Strong grasp of job estimates, drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of workforce planning and labor resource allocation.
  • Excellent communication skills for drafting reports, business letters, and summaries.
  • Organizational skills to coordinate projects, people, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with the community and cultural organizations.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to determine alternative work methods as needed.

Experience and Other Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of project management experience on commercial construction projects.
  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce.
  • Self-directed and capable of working independently in remote environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Procore or Sage.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification (must be obtained within the first 60 days if not already held).
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness to travel, including overnight stays.
