Job summary

SB Thomas is seeking an on-site Project Manager in Pittsburgh, PA to lead client construction projects. You will manage the project team, perform pre-construction reviews, arrange phasing, and track progress and change orders. Daily inspections and close-out support are required for successful delivery.

The candidate should bring deep construction management experience, strong communication, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams under tight deadlines. Valid driver license is a must.

Qualifications

  • Five years of construction experience with two years in construction management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience reviewing schedules, estimates, and project documents.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project team including engineers and administration staff.
  • Provide pre-construction services: constructability reviews, cost estimating, and phasing plans.
  • Review schedules, track progress, and manage change orders.
  • Inspect ongoing work, ensure drawings/specifications are followed, and input reports daily.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly status reports for the client and assist with close-out activities.

Job description

We are SB Thomas, a full-service construction management and project management firm, founded and built on a culture of excellence and integrity that informs everything we do. Over the years, SB Thomas has grown into the following four professional service lines that support the construction industry: Building Construction Management, Transportation Construction Inspection, Property/Facilities Condition Assessments and Transportation Planning. Each of these service lines is led by an experienced professional with a supporting team that has industry leading experience, training and knowledge that continues to provide exceptional client outcomes.

We're seeking a Project Manager to work on-site in Pittsburgh, PA at client construction projects.

Specifically, in this role you will:
  • Management of the SB Thomas project team including project engineer(s) and project administration staff
  • Provide pre-construction phase services including but not limited to constructability reviews, cost estimating or estimate reviews, site logistics planning, and phasing plans
  • Review project schedules and track project progress
  • add to purpose or physical requirements; travel to client sites
  • Track, evaluate, negotiate, and prepare change orders
  • Track status of and recommend possible solutions to requests for information
  • Perform inspection of in-progress construction work
  • Assure compliance with drawings and specifications
  • Input daily inspection reports into the construction management platform
  • Upload progress photos daily into the construction management platform
  • Maintain project close-out documents including as-builts
  • Have a good working knowledge of all project documents, including specifications, plans, submittals, subcontracts, shop drawings, and any other project specific documents
  • Check materials being delivered against approved submittals to assure materials delivered/being installed are approved
  • Assist in administrative procedures and maintaining records for the project
  • Conduct meetings as necessary including but not limited to pre-bid, kick-off/pre-construction, owner update, coordination, and project meetings
  • Assist with the coordination of special inspections and testing services and LEED testing, assure testing and special inspections are occurring, and create a log to documenting scheduling and performance of testing and special inspections.
  • Review and approval of contractor schedule of values and payment applications
  • Review project daily for safety issues, complete daily safety checklist, track and assure resolution of issues, and stop work if major safety issue(s) are identified.
  • Assist design team with punch-list and perform project close-out activities.
  • Prepare weekly and/or monthly project status reports for submission to client
  • Other Project Management duties as necessary
  • May be required to perform cost estimating and other related duties, as assigned
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
  • 5 years construction experience plus 2 years construction management experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field preferred
  • Prior advisory construction management or general construction project manager experience preferred
  • Familiarity with construction methods and materials
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Capacity to work well under pressure and enforce project schedules
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross functional team members to achieve goals
  • Excellent computer/laptop/ipad skills is a must
  • Able to multitask, prioritize and meet tight deadlines
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must possess strong attention to detail
  • Experience with reading blueprints and project specifications
  • Self-motivated with keen attention to detail
  • Must have valid Driver License
  • Must be able to pass drug screen and criminal background checks
  • OSHA 30 Training or greater is preferred
The work environment requires an individual who is able, with or without reasonable accommodation to:
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of a jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must travel to regional jobsites.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  • Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  • Full-Time on-site (unless client or project requires otherwise)
