We are looking for a Project Construction Manager Central Engineering - Corporate to join our Team and support all of the Kaiser Aluminum plants in North America!

The Project Construction Manager will be assigned construction management responsibilities for projects at one or multiple plant sites. The role is responsible for planning, supervision, and coordination to ensure safe and effective construction projects. The role will often support start-up and commissioning activities. The Construction Manager will provide timely communication of construction project planning, reporting, schedules, status, issues and potential misses or exceptions on a regularly scheduled basis. The role reports to the VP, Central Engineering and Project Management.

This position can be based either near a specific Kaiser plant location or approved remote location. In either case, travel will be required based on the specific project location(s).

During project development, more than 80% of the role is performed in an office setting. During project construction, the role will often be more than 80% in a manufacturing environment with exposure to mobile equipment, operating machinery and various temperatures.

What you will work on:
Project management
  • Support development of project scope, feasibility, cost estimates, and schedules for installation, engineering, and construction
  • Develop construction specifications
  • Manage project construction resources, budgets, and schedules
  • Administer construction engineering and design contracts
  • Coordinate and manage installations, outages, and equipment start-ups
  • Prepare and organize project construction documentation (manuals, spare parts, correspondence, drawings, drawing lists, material listings, etc.)
  • Track, report and manage project construction performance, schedule, and cost compliance
Specific responsibilities and duties
  • Development and maintenance of project construction estimates and schedules
  • Developing the project construction plan to drive out risk
  • Maintain technical knowledge of Kaiser Processes, equipment, construction methods, approaches, and technology
  • Participate/Lead in the execution of projects as required based on skill and knowledge level or identify necessary resources expeditiously
  • Collaborate with lead engineers and project managers
  • Develop and implement work process improvements to streamline or improve effectiveness and efficiency of practices and processes
  • Develop construction specifications; participate in purchasing processes to negotiate successful construction contracts to conform to budget and specification requirements
  • Follow procedures necessary to comply with company policies
  • Create a zero injury work environment by planning safety into construction methods and execution
  • Administer training when applicable for compliance with Kaiser safety policies and procedures
  • Track project financials and take appropriate action to bring project to completion within approved budget
  • Other duties as assigned
What you will bring to the role:
  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering and industrial experience is preferred. A minimum of an Associate’s degree plus 5 years of experience in project engineering, project management, construction management or other equivalent experience is required.
  • Ability to interface with contractors and all levels of the Kaiser organization
  • Software expertise: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, and MS Project
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work individually and within broader teams successfully
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Understanding of industrial construction drawings and practices
  • Plant production management in a Lean production system is preferred
  • Ability to operate a laser and understand equipment alignment is preferred
  • Lead construction management activities that result in the successful execution of on-time, on-schedule, and on-budget projects
  • Works successfully with limited direction
  • Ability to build successful teams
  • Professional interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict
  • Ability to work flexible hours relative to 24/7 operations
  • Strong work ethic with proven dependability
