Job summary

Plante Moran is seeking a Construction Project Manager for senior living projects in the Chicago area. You will oversee complex programs, manage multiple vendors, and ensure budget, schedule, and design alignment with client objectives.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in building, design, and construction, with strong communication skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, and MS Project. This hybrid role requires Chicago-area residency or relocation and occasional travel.

Qualifications

  • Engineering or Architecture or Construction Management degree from an accredited college/university.
  • 8+ years of building, design and construction experience in project management, construction administration or field management.
  • Construction field experience on large-scale residential, commercial, or institutional work with knowledge of best practices.
  • Understanding of the design process driving scope and budget development.
  • Construction cost estimating experience is desirable.
  • Experience with vertical construction is desirable.
  • Experience with design or construction of senior living or multi-family housing is desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project Scheduling Software.
  • reside in or near the Chicago area or be willing to relocate; expect site visits and in-person meetings 1-2 days/week and up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide program leadership by working with existing clients.
  • Collaborate with clients to oversee multiple vendors and stakeholders, including procurement and budgeting.
  • Advise on program risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide guidance on contracting methods, scheduling, and budget decisions.
  • Offer guidance on issue resolution aligned with project objectives.
  • Interact and communicate with client management and support staff at all levels.
  • Attend meetings with client, architect, contractors, and other service providers.
  • Review vendor invoices, billings, and pay applications for budget compliance.
  • Evaluate design and construction issues, RFIs, and submittals throughout construction.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, including regular updates.
  • Work within PMR policies and procedures on projects.

We are on the lookout for a dynamic and vibrant builder professional with outstanding interpersonal skills to take on the role of Construction Project Manager with our senior living clients. This exciting position involves overseeing either large-scale projects or multiple programs of varying scope and scale.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to engage with a wide range of clients and vendors, demonstrating exceptional communication and technical prowess. They will be adept at educating clients on risk factors, including preconstruction and management of vendors and budgets.

Your role.
  • Your work will include, but not be limited to:
  • Provide program leadership by working with existing clients.
  • Collaborate directly with clients to oversee multiple vendors and client stakeholders involved in designing and constructing the program including procuring vendors (A/E, constructor, etc.), managing the program to ensure adherence to budget and schedule, and aligning with project objectives.
  • Advise on program risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Offer guidance on best practices and industry standards for contracting methods, program scheduling, and budget decisions.
  • Provide advice on issue resolution in line with project objectives.
  • Interact, coordinate, and communicate effectively with all levels of client management and support staff.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with the client, architect, contractors, and other professional service providers.
  • Review vendor invoices, billings, and pay applications to ensure compliance with the program budget and lender procedures.
  • Evaluate design and construction issues, RFI’s, submittals throughout construction of the program.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to clients as requested, including regular project updates.
  • Work within an internal team to ensure the implementation and compliance of P&M and PMR policies and procedures on projects.
The qualifications.
  • Engineering Degree, Architecture Degree, or Construction Management Degree from an accredited college or university
  • 8+ years of building, design, and construction experience in the following areas: project management, construction administration or construction field management
  • Construction field experience on large-scale residential, commercial, or institutional work and knowledge of construction best practices are required.
  • Understanding of the design process that drives scope and budget development is required.
  • Construction cost estimating experience is desirable
  • Experience with vertical construction is desirable.
  • Experience with design or construction of senior living or multi-family housing is desirable.

The compensation range reflects the base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this position across our offices in the following regions: CO, IL, OH, and MA.
