Job summary

APEX Consulting Engineers, LLC is expanding into Wisconsin infrastructure and seeks a Construction Project Leader to manage highway, roadway, and bridge projects across southern Wisconsin. The role offers the autonomy of a small firm with the resources of a larger practice, with a hybrid/field-based work model.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, develop career roadmaps, and contribute to shaping transportation in Wisconsin.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Wisconsin Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
• 10+ years of experience managing roadway, bridge, or civil construction projects.
• Extensive experience with WisDOT and Wisconsin agency standards.
• Ability to independently lead multidisciplinary project teams and travel in southern Wisconsin.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead WisDOT roadway and bridge construction projects from preconstruction to closeout.
• Ensure projects meet design standards and contract documents.
• Manage and oversee project staff and subconsultants/inspectors.
• Conduct field inspections and thorough documentation.
• Prepare contractor pay estimates and construction progress reports.
• Perform constructability reviews and flag risks early.
• Coordinate project schedules, budgets, and change orders.
• Maintain strong communication with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
• Lead or participate in progress meetings and issue resolution.

As an APEX Construction Project Leader, you’ll provide construction engineering and inspection services on highway, roadway, bridge and other various infrastructure projects across southern Wisconsin. Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
• Wisconsin Professional Engineer (PE) License
• 10+ years of experience managing roadway/highway, bridge, or general civil construction projects
• Extensive experience with WisDOT and other Wisconsin agency standards
• Ability to independently lead multidisciplinary project teamsAbility to drive to/from project locations in southern Wisconsin
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Suite (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

• WisDOT HTCP Certifications
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 hour training
• Working knowledge of Bluebeam, MicroStation, Civil3D and/or AutoCAD
