Exential is seeking a Project Engineer located in Malta, NY, to support the successful execution of construction projects. This role is responsible for assisting with project planning, coordination, documentation, and execution while ensuring alignment with company procedures and contract requirements.

Working under the direction of the Project Manager, the Project Engineer helps manage project resources, budgets, risks, and schedules, while supporting communication between stakeholders and providing critical information to the field. This role is integral to delivering projects efficiently, at the lowest possible cost and risk.

Explore your tasks and responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and engineering teams to define project requirements, objectives, and constraints
  • Assist in developing project schedules, budgets, and resource plans
  • Support implementation and tracking of project plans, risks, and action items

Procurement

  • Assist in the procurement of materials, equipment, and services
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery
  • Support contract administration and purchasing activities

Construction Management

  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and field teams during construction
  • Monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, quality, and safety requirements
  • Provide timely updates and detailed information to field personnel

Quality Control

  • Support the implementation of quality control processes
  • Assist with inspections and ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards

Risk Management

  • Identify potential project risks and support the development of mitigation strategies
  • Track risks related to cost, schedule, safety, and technical performance

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including drawings, contracts, change orders, and reports
  • Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, and document meeting minutes
  • Ensure all project records are current and accessible to stakeholders

Communication

  • Facilitate communication among project stakeholders, including clients, vendors, internal teams, and regulatory agencies
  • Provide regular updates and help resolve project issues and conflicts
  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
  • Support compliance with HSE regulations and company safety standards
  • Promote a safe working environment and assist with safety initiatives

Project Closeout

  • Assist with project closeout activities, including final inspections, documentation, and client handover
  • Support lessons learned documentation and ensure all contractual requirements are completed

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working on construction projects (semiconductor and/or pharmaceutical facility experience preferred)
  • Ability to understand and interpret drawings, specifications, contract documents, and construction methods
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written communication and documentation abilities
  • Basic knowledge of construction accounting, estimating, cost control, scheduling, and purchasing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and grow
