Job summary

Dowbuilt is seeking a Project Engineer to collaborate with the superintendent and project manager on estimating, scheduling, and subcontractor buy-out. You will help manage project documentation and ensure field alignment with design intent on high-end residential projects.

The role emphasizes site-based work when possible, quality craftsmanship, and strong communication across architects, vendors, and the build team. US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of construction management experience, preferably high-end residential.
  • Construction management degree or equivalent education with experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of construction terminology and materials.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Project, Excel, Word, and BlueBeam.
  • Familiarity with Slack, Asana, SmartSheet and Airtable preferred.
  • US work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project manager and superintendent to build according to plan and specs.
  • Contribute to estimating: take-offs, sub bids, materials pricing.
  • Maintain relationships and communicate with clients, partners, designers, field team, subs.
  • Read and manage plans, specs, contracts, PO's, shop drawings and RFIs.
  • Issue RFPs and distribute plans and contract documents.
  • Create scope of work for subs and vendors for RFPS & Subcontractor Agreements.
  • Conduct subcontractor site walk-throughs to review plans and specs prior to pricing.
  • Assess data from subcontractor proposals: review, negotiate, summarize.
  • Write and manage Subcontractor Agreements with all elements.
  • Maintain punch list with architect and build team.
  • Review and code applications for payment with PM.
  • Ensure owner payments are received and paid to subs.
  • Maintain owner’s manual and close-out documentation.
  • Support site quality control with superintendent.
  • Promote safety as a core value.

Job description

We’re hiring a Project Engineer to work closely with the superintendent and project manager on estimating and scheduling efforts, subcontractor buy-out, and project documentation/tracking. Project engineers understand design intent and apply the mechanics of how things come together in the field to collaborate effectively with the project team, architect, vendors, subs, suppliers, and consultants. This position is dynamic, creative, and whenever possible, site-based, to ensure projects are executed at the highest levels of quality and craftsmanship.

What you’ll do

As a project engineer, you’ll be responsible for supporting the entire construction project lifecycle from pre- to post-construction, including:

  • Collaborating with project manager and superintendent to build according to plan and specifications
  • Contributing to estimating efforts: take-offs, coordinate sub bids, materials pricing
  • Maintaining positive relationships and clearly communicating with clients, partners, designers, field team, and subcontractors
  • Reading and managing plans, specifications, contracts, purchase orders, shop drawings, submittals, lien releases, RFI logs, and all other project related documents
  • Issuing RFPs, distributing plans and contract documents
  • Creating scope of work for subs and vendors for RFPs and Subcontractor Agreements
  • Conducting subcontractor site walk-throughs to review plans and specs prior to pricing
  • Assessing data from subcontractor proposals: review, negotiate, summarize
  • Writing and managing Subcontractor Agreements ensuring all necessary elements are present
  • Maintaining punch list with architect and build team
  • Receiving, review, and code applications for payment with project manager
  • Partnering with the project manager to assure payment is received from owner and paid out to subcontractors
  • Maintaining owner’s manual (product information, warranties, as-built drawings, etc.) and handling project close out requirements
  • Working with superintendent to maintain job site quality control
  • Being a positive advocate for safety in action and attitude; reinforcing awareness to reduce the risk of injury or citations
What you need to succeed

To be successful as a Dowbuilt project engineer, you’ll need:

  • 3+ years of construction management experience, high-end residential highly preferred
  • Construction Management degree, or similar education plus experience
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications
  • Excellent communication, team-building skills and detail follow through
  • Knowledge of technical construction terms and experience with both traditional and new materials
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Project, Excel, Word, BlueBeam
  • Familiarity with web-based applications such as Slack, Asana, SmartSheet, and Airtable is highly preferred
  • Sage 300 CRE familiarity is preferred, but not required
  • US Work Authorization

The base pay range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. New hires typically start below the midpoint of the range, with the opportunity for growth and advancement over time.
