Job summary

The Nakoa Companies Inc. is seeking two Project Engineers to drive technical execution on government and commercial construction projects. On-site in Kapolei, HI, you will plan, schedule, procure, and communicate from pre-construction through closeout.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management (required).
  • 3–5 years of construction experience in the field, ideally on commercial or government projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, standards, and materials.
  • Proficiency in reading drawings, managing schedules, and coordinating resources.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead by example, adapt to shifting priorities, and take initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and engineering oversight for field and design issues.
  • Develop technical solutions in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Create and manage project schedules using GANTT or PERT charts.
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards and regulations.
  • Coordinate procurement and resources; source materials and subcontractors.
  • Provide regular project updates to ownership and stakeholders.
  • Manage change orders from pricing to payment applications.
  • Support budgeting processes and monthly billing.

Based on-site, the Project Engineer plays a critical role in planning, scheduling, procurement, and communication from pre-construction through project closeout. Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Support & Engineering
  • Apply engineering principles to solve field and design issues.
  • Develop technical solutions in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Ensure adherence to technical standards and compliance with regulations.
  • Project Planning & Execution
  • Assist in the creation and management of project schedules using GANTT or PERT charts.
  • Monitor progress and flag potential delays or issues to leadership.
  • Contribute to project execution to meet deadlines and budget targets.
  • Procurement & Resource Coordination
  • Perform accurate material takeoffs and source required materials.
  • Develop scope of work documents and evaluate subcontractor alternatives.
  • Organize procurement schedules and track vendor performance.
  • Communication & Collaboration
  • Provide consistent project updates to ownership and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to maintain progress and resolve challenges.
  • Act as a key liaison between engineering teams and on-site staff.
  • Change Order Management
  • Develop pricing for proposed changes and negotiate outcomes.
  • Manage CO execution from approval to payment application.
  • Budgeting & Billing
  • Support project budgeting processes and ongoing cost control.
  • Prepare monthly billing applications and coordinate owner acceptance and payment follow-up.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management (required).
  • 3–5 years of construction experience in the field, ideally on commercial or government projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, standards, and materials.
  • Proficiency in reading drawings, managing schedules, and coordinating resources.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead by example, adapt to shifting priorities, and take initiative.
  • No specific certifications required, but hands-on experience is essential.

Other Requirements

  • Must pass a 5-panel drug screen (federal contracting requirement).
  • Must be eligible for access to military facilities.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
