Comfort Systems USA, Inc. seeks an experienced Project Accounting Manager in Dallas to lead the project accounting function for a growing construction organization.

This hands-on role partners with Project Managers and Operations leaders to drive accurate job costing, forecasts, and billing. The ideal candidate has 7+ years in accounting with 5+ in construction/project accounting, strong Excel and ERP skills, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of accounting experience, including 5+ years in construction or project accounting.
• Strong knowledge of construction job costing, WIP reporting, and project forecasting.
• Experience with construction billing, including AIA billing, retainage, and subcontract accounting.
• Understanding of revenue recognition and project profitability analysis.
• Supervisory, team lead, or mentoring experience preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with construction ERP systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with Project Managers and Operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Project Accounting team.
• Oversee project setup, contract entry, budgets, cost codes, and job-cost accounting.
• Manage monthly project forecasting and review forecasts for accuracy and reasonableness.
• Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and analyze project profitability.
• Monitor committed costs, variances, cost overruns, and other financial risks.
• Oversee AIA, progress, unit-price, and time-and-material billing.
• Support revenue recognition, month-end close, and project financial reporting.
• Partner with Project Managers to resolve billing and project financial issues.
• Monitor unbilled revenue and billing backlog.
• Maintain accounting controls and support internal and external audits.
• Improve project accounting processes and ERP systems.
