Job Summary
Construction Program Managers oversee the strategic planning, management, and execution of industrial construction projects for food and beverage production facilities. They ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet high-quality standards, while fostering strong client and stakeholder relationships. These managers oversee large projects and supervise, mentor, and direct onsite construction managers.
Client Relations Responsibilities
- Manage and foster relationships with clients by understanding their needs, actively listening, and addressing feedback honestly and transparently.
- Review project schedules, work progress, and budgets with clients.
- Proactively communicate project progress, issues, and updates to clients.
- Set and manage project timelines, deliverables, and expectations.
- Adapt to changing client needs while maintaining professionalism.
- Build trust and rapport with clients by delivering on expectations and adding value.
- Provide guidance and reliable support to clients based on experience.
Supervising Responsibilities of Construction Projects
- Oversee site-based construction managers, field administrators, and technical staff from conception to completion, including safety oversight.
- Review and monitor team work, mentor staff, evaluate performance, and provide guidance to meet deadlines.
- Contribute field input to project management regarding budgets and costs.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
- Collaborate with the project manager on scope, budget, and schedule updates.
- Develop relationships with inspectors to ensure permit compliance.
- Manage change orders and general construction administration.
- Coordinate third-party testing, inspections, and relationships.
- Conduct site walks and audits to monitor progress and efficiency.
- Support and coordinate facility start-up activities.
- Create construction reports for client executives.
- Work with project controllers on invoices and billing.
- Promote effective communication among project participants, clients, and partners.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in construction science, building science, construction engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of progressive site experience in industrial building projects, preferably in Food & Beverage.
- Extensive experience working with subcontractors.
- Proven ability to drive project schedules.
- 15+ years of building and maintaining client relationships.
- Strong technical, organizational, managerial, and communication skills, including proficiency with 3D models.
- 7+ years of design-build project experience.
- Excellent communication skills in all formats.
- Fundamental understanding of all construction phases and ability to interpret documents and schedules, specifically with MS Project.
- Willingness to travel up to 100% within the USA and possibly Canada.
- Work schedule includes 10 days onsite followed by 4 days off.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as standing and walking on uneven surfaces at sites.
- Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of the jobsite in various weather conditions, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, and stretching.
- Exposure to construction site hazards.
- On-call availability for delays, emergencies, weather, and other issues.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Travel Requirement
- Projects are across the US and Canada; position involves overseeing large projects with a 10 days on / 4 days off schedule, lasting 12+ months. Travel and lodging are provided, with up to 100% overnight travel required.
