Job Description

Primary Function:
Work as a crew member installing various pipelines.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Work with the crew on pipe stringing.
  2. Work with the top man and operator while placing pipe in the ditch.
  3. Hand shovel and expose any existing utilities and bring them to the attention of the operator.
  4. Always position yourself in a location clearly visible to the operator when giving signals.
  5. Ensure proper softeners are in place for the excavator bucket prior to inserting the pipe into the preceding bell.
  6. Mark the bell length on the spigot of the pipe being installed to verify proper travel length.
  7. Double-check the installed pipe with a pocket level and visually inspect the new joint.
  8. Install marking identification tape over the pipeline before backfill.
  9. Compact the pipeline to the springline of the pipe using a "pogo stick" or tamper.
  10. Protect newly installed pipelines from potential damage and ingress of dirt and trash.
  11. Have a temporary "night" plug nearby for quick installations.
  12. Check delivered pipe and fittings for conformance and defects.
  13. Bolt up fittings and pipe configurations ahead of excavation operations.
  14. Assist the foreman in laser setup and monitor accuracy throughout the day.
  15. Ensure proper bedding is in place and leveled to the proper grade.
  16. Assist with activities such as well pointing, constructing invert channels, masonry work, pipeline testing, cleanup, etc.
  17. Work in accordance with the Company Safety Program and report safety violations or concerns to the Foreman.
  18. Monitor and maintain jobsite housekeeping.
  19. Secure the jobsite during non-working periods, such as evenings or weekends.
  20. Park equipment to protect vulnerable machines from theft and ensure accessibility for refueling personnel.
  21. Maintain erosion control devices and ensure they are functioning properly.
  22. Monitor signs and barricades, resetting them as needed.
