Job description

Position Profile

This position will be responsible for observation and documentation of airport paving, drainage, utility, lighting, structural, and site development during construction. Projects may also include highways, local roads, bridges, and earthen structures.

A Day in the Life of a Construction Observer at Hanson

Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

  1. Represent the owner in monitoring construction activities for compliance with plans and specifications.
  2. Perform or schedule/observe onsite construction materials testing.
  3. Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with contractors, designers, and/or the owner's representatives.
What We're Looking For

We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma/equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years of construction experience
  • Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the minimum qualifications above, the following will make you a more competitive candidate:

  • Experience working in an airport environment is preferred; experience with other infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, earth structures) is also applicable.
  • IDOT Construction Technician courses: Documentation of Contracts and Quantities, 3-Day Aggregate, PCC Level I and II, HMA Level I and II.
  • Department of Transportation project experience (IL preferred) and familiarity with agency documentation and material testing certifications.
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently, desire to learn new skills, self-motivated, and good interpersonal communication skills.
Salary Information

Technician III range: $31 - $33 per hour

Technician IV range (minimum 6 years of experience): $33.40 - $37.10 per hour

Technician V range (minimum 8 years of experience): $35 - $42 per hour
