Job description

Job Overview

Position: Construction Observer (all levels). Provide construction oversight for highway, bridge, and airport projects across multiple states by monitoring compliance with plans, specifications, and conducting material testing.

Responsibilities

• Represent the owner in monitoring construction activities for compliance with plans and specifications.
• Observe and document construction of airport paving, drainage, utility, lighting, structural, and site development.
• Travel up to approximately 50% of the time, primarily within Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Kentucky.
• Schedule or perform onsite construction materials testing.
• Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with contractors, designers, and owner’s representatives.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of roadway or airport construction experience.
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an airport environment (preferred).
• Experience with other infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, earth structures.
• Completion of IDOT Construction Technician courses: Documentation of Contracts and Quantities, 3-Day Aggregate, PCC Level I and II, HMA Level I and II.
• Holder of, or ability to obtain, NASSCO certification.
• Holder of, or ability to obtain, ITCP-CIPP, PACP, LACP, MACP certifications.
• Department of Transportation project experience (Illinois preferred).
• Team-oriented, self-motivated, with strong interpersonal communication skills.

Salary

Hourly rate: $30.00-$45.00 per hour, depending on experience.
