Job description

Civil Design Advantage (CDA) is accepting applications for a full-time Construction Observer. CDA is looking for a self–motivated, highly organized, and ambitious professional to play a key role in construction observation services. Candidate will work independently at times and at times directly with other construction observers on projects under construction primarily within the Des Moines metro area. This role provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals and contribute to the successful delivery of site and infrastructure improvements for municipal projects and private land development projects.

Responsibilities
  • Observe work in progress to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Examine workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards.
  • Maintain daily report of construction observation activities.
  • Prepare or work with design team members to create sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and incorporate changes into master plans.
  • Observe material on the job site.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications related to materials and workmanship.
  • Receive moderate supervision from senior-level Construction Services and Project Management staff. May be assigned to work independently on a project with some complex features.
  • Communicate regularly with contractors, jurisdictions, and design team members regarding the progress of construction activities.
  • Report progress and maintain schedules.
  • Prepare punch‑list and close‑out procedures.
  • Perform post‑construction services and investigations as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 2 years previous experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, with high level of attention to detail and ability to multi‑task.
  • Self‑motivated, enjoys challenges, learning new things, and demonstrates reliability and professionalism.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam is a bonus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a team when appropriate.
